A Message from Pastor Sara

Jesus says Come and See in this week’s Gospel reading. Often times you will hear a sermon that is an evangelism sermon from me about inviting your friends and family. This year I want to invite YOU to come and see the Lord. This has been another tough year to say the least. What would 2022 look like if you accepted the Lord’s invitation to come and see? Maybe it would mean joining a bible study? Or trying FAITH5 every night? Or praying in the morning while you exercise? Or sharing your time at the thrift shop or on the council?

What might it look like in 2022 to say to God, this is all too hard to do by myself and I want to acknowledge and see that You are with me? What might 2022 look like to say I want to prioritize my spiritual journey this year? What might it look like to have a New Year’s resolution about more than just eating better, or working out, or reading more (all good things)?

As we move into 2022 and with the council and staff restructure I will be moving my focus away from some administration and more into spiritual growth, I’d be delighted to join you on your come and see journey. Let me know how I can walk with you! Happy New Year!

God's Peace,
Pastor Sara

P.S. Thank you for the generous Christmas gift. It is my joy and pleasure to serve as your pastor. I’ll think of each of you fondly with my purchases.

PRAYERS

Joining our voices with the heavenly host and Christians throughout time and space, let us pray for the church, the world, and all in need.

Draw our attention to those who communicate through sign, braille, and technology. Make your church a place where all methods of COMMUNICATION are celebrated.

Creating God, the sun greats us anew each morning. Thank you for waking us up today to witness and share your abundance. AWAKEN us always to your wisdom and deepen our care for your natural world.

Emmanuel, in your name we are assured that you are with us. TRAIN nations and peoples to honor and respect one another, especially those whose names and identities have been mistreated, neglected, or oppressed.

You adopt us as your beloved ones. ACCOMPANY parents and children navigating the adoption process, especially those in the foster system. Sustain those struggling with infertility or pregnancy loss.

You journey with us through change. GUIDE those assuming new roles in this congregation or making transitions in their families, workplaces, or communities. As the seasons and the calendar change, equip us for unexpected challenges.

HEAR OUR PRAYERS FOR:

...Thanks that John Williams' granddaughter Dayana has recovered from Covid and grandson Jared is improving. Healing for son Joe and grandson Joey who have now tested positive and are symptomatic.

...For Naomi Talbott's friend, Katherine, who is fighting stage 4 cancer. For healing of body, mind and spirit. And that her pain will be controlled.

...For Bonnie who was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Prayers from the Joy Thrift Prayer Wall:

...prayers for peace, hope and love

Steps 1-4: Building a Foundation

A team has been set up by the JRLC Council to explore the RIC (Reconciling in Christ) process. Team members are KL Broom, John Williams, John Osborn, and Hannah Rosekrans.

Since 1983, the Reconciling in Christ (RIC) Program has been a public way for faith communities to see, name, celebrate, and advocate for people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions in the Lutheran church. The RIC Program is made up of congregations, synods, colleges, seminaries, outdoor ministries, and other Lutheran organizations.

JRLC’s strategic plan, announced in June 2020, explores the process of becoming a RIC congregation. As the 11+ step process continues, your input will be sought and valued. The steps include education and testimonials as well as the crafting of a Welcoming Statement with congregational involvement throughout. The process includes a congregational vote to publish the statement and officially be considered a RIC Congregation.

The RIC process will begin by offering the congregation opportunities for engagement and input, and for understanding together what calling ourselves “RIC” means—and doesn’t mean. Look for more information and opportunities for engagement in the coming weeks. To learn more go to: https://www.reconcilingworks.org/resources/ric/
