Greetings, Awesome SCS Colleagues.

As we approach tomorrow's Presidential Inauguration, I want to share this UPDATED toolkit from our SCS Social Studies team containing resources for teachers of all grade levels to support conversations, lessons and activities to help students learn about this historic event.

We want students to have the opportunity to explore information sources about the Inauguration process and demonstrate historical awareness about the event. While all grades may not have a specific correlating standard concerning the Inauguration, there is ample support within the Social Studies curriculum and practices for viewing and/or discussing the Inauguration as a class.

Teachers who are interested in viewing the Inauguration live in class can access the live stream at bideninaugural.org/watch at 11 a.m.

With reports of possible violence during Inauguration week, I want to remind educators, if necessary, to refer to their training for social-emotional learning. Additionally, my update shared on January 11 also contains resources on how to address traumatic events in the classroom. **Please note, educators are encouraged to use discretion while discussing these events and adhere to District policies.

POST YOUR INAUGURATION DAY ACTIVITIES ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

We want to show our community how SCS teachers and students take part in Inauguration Day, so please capture some screenshots and post about your creative lessons and conversations on social media using #InaugurationDaySCS.
Sincerely,

Dr. Joris M. Ray,
Superintendent
