Biodegradable Masks at Meridian
A note from Anoushka Soni, 11th Grade
Did you know that traditional face masks are made of polypropylene plastic – a thermoplastic polymer that can take up to 450 years to decompose? Meridian recently received a donation of biodegradable masks for students and faculty to use.
As an extension of Anoushka Soni’s personal project, she worked with ELo Industries (www.elomed.us), a woman-owned, minority-owned and operated small business in the US, to bring 1,400 masks to Meridian. ELoMed™ bio face masks are eco-friendly, and actually work, yielding a >98% BFE, a notably high breathability rate, and are lab tested to ASTM Standards. These masks are also hypoallergenic, and are made from renewable plant resources like corn, cassava, sugar cane, and sugar beet.
These masks are available for use as you walk into school (in the high school and middle school lobbies)! Help Meridian achieve a smaller carbon footprint by using these biodegradable masks, and please make sure you cut the ear loops before you dispose of them (to avoid wildlife harm)!
