In the wake of the devasting toll Hurricane Ian had on the state of Florida, the Miami Beach JCC would like to send our love and support to all those affected. In order to help the hundreds of thousands of people who have been displaced or stranded, we join The Greater Miami Jewish Federation as well as Jewish communities across the county to help provide critical shelter and aid.
The Greater Miami Jewish Federation has established an Emergency Relief Fund to assist those affected by Hurricane Ian. In the face of the devastation, immediate help is needed. One hundred percent of the funds collected will provide aid and critical support to those in need. If you would like to be part of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation's response to Hurricane Ian, please give here: https://jewishmiami.org/hurricaneian/

Debra Green -
The Convention of Wives
|
Dina and Julia first meet at a surgical convention and bond over frustrations with their husbands’ demanding schedules. But geography, time, and growing families make maintaining their friendship difficult and their relationship eventually falls apart.
A sweeping saga that follows generations from a shtetl in Odessa to the comforts of Scarsdale, an uprising in Glasgow to servitude in the Caribbean, and a trek through the Alps to a displaced persons camp in Italy, The Convention of Wives is a story about the ever-evolving messiness of friendship and marriage, and the wonder of survival.
The Convention of Wives is Debra Green’s first novel.

Alyson Richman & Shaunna J. Edwards: The Thread Collectors |
Join us for this JCC Special Speaker Series event with Alyson Richman and Shaunna J. Edwards, authors of The Thread Collectors. Inspired by the author's own histories, The Thread Collectors is a rich historical novel set during the Civil War about two women-one black and yearning for freedom in New Orleans, the other a Jewish abolitionist in New York- whose resourceful sewing to support their communities leads them on unexpected, dangerous journeys as they fight to bring their loved ones home from the front. The two main characters are based on real ancestors of the authors.

"My daughter, Charlie, and I were at the beach this morning making a sandcastle “town” together. We created lots of big and small buildings and talked about everything that goes into a happy town. We made a hospital, police station, school, shopping mall, bank… and then she jumps up and says, “wait, we need a jcc! Every happy town needs a jcc”!!!
I thought it was so touching and poignant in its simplicity. You are a central part of her identity. Her safe and happy space. Every town needs one.
I felt so touched by her comment and just had to share!!"
