It's back to school - for our 17 new junior High School Fellows, 12 returning senior High School Fellows, and 14 new and returning College Student Leaders, including 4 former High School Fellows.

Summer Leader Training

During July and August, our 14 new and returning College Student Leaders gathered in person and virtually to talk about imposter syndrome, undermatching, supporting undocumented students and families, financial aid, navigating trust, and even suicide prevention. It was an amazing 4th Summer Leader Training, and we are particularly grateful to our returning College Student Leaders, MTB Advisory Board Member Maria Zamora-Porras, and friend of MTB Professor Angela Putman for their contributions.

Summer Program for High School Seniors

A grant from the Office of the Secretary of Higher Education funded stipends for College Student Leaders Ashley Delgado and Nereida Delgado Garcia to run our summer program for our rising high school seniors. Ashley and Nereida led our students in preparing their college essays, working on their college lists, beginning the Common App, and gathering documents for financial aid and verification.

Rising high school seniors and College Student Leaders gathered to discuss options and choices including commuting, dorming in New Jersey, and going out of state for college.

Summer Reading

Former High School Fellow and new College Student Leader Jackie Arteaga led our discussion of Jennine Capó Crucet's amazing novel about the experience of a first-generation student who goes off to a fictional, elite Rawlings College.

Jackie will be making her home among strangers at Wellesley College this year.

Here is what one of our High School Fellows said: "I am ecstatic that I got to read such an amazing book with this group of people."

Governor's Hispanic Fellows

College Student Leader Ashley Delgado completed the Governor's Hispanic Fellows Program this summer. MTB also hosted a fellow, Ismel Martinez. We congratulate them on expanding their networks and building their skills.
