Westmoor Families-

Happy Friday! As we get ready to shift to the second semester and return from our adaptive pause, I'd like to thank our Westmoor families for their flexibility and partnership this year. During this unique learning year, your support has been invaluable.

Do you want to support the WM PTO and take a night off from cooking dinner? Please think about ordering a large cheese pizza and/or ice cream sundae kit on www.westmoorpto.com by Wednesday, January 20. Pick up will be at Westmoor door 'A' (main office) on January 22 from 5:15-6:00. Thank you to our PTO for organizing this event for families.

We also have our first of two PTO-sponsored STEM Nights with Camp Galileo coming up. Friday, January 22nd students K-2 can participate in a virtual STEM night at 6:30. Please see our PTO section below for more information regarding registration.

Below is a complete list of upcoming assessments for in-person students. These dates have also been added to the Westmoor Parent Calendar. Student Quote of the Week:
We love featuring our student quotes of the week in the Westmoor Weekly. Please use the link below to submit one and we will use it in the WM Weekly.
Crisis Go Student Certification
Thank you for entering your student's Crisis Go self-certification during the past two weeks. We will need you to continue to do so as we start back in person on Tuesday. Please enter this information no later than 8 a.m. If we have not received it by 8 a.m. you will receive a phone call from the school. Students are not allowed into their classrooms until we receive this.
Cold Weather & Snow
Please make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather. The District 28 weather policy is: Students go outside for recess and mask breaks, as long as the "feels like" temperature is above 10 degrees. There are some days in the morning that it will not be warm enough to be outside but by afternoon recess it will have warmed up. Please send your student daily with the items they will need throughout the day. Students must have boots, snow pants, and gloves to be allowed to play in the snow.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Group Volunteers Needed!
We are looking for 5-6 parent volunteers to support the district's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee. This group will be tasked with reading and providing feedback on materials created by the DEI steering committee.
All of the work will be independent with specific timeframes in which to submit comments. No meetings -- virtual or in-person -- will be required. Volunteers need only have an interest in supporting the district's DEI efforts, though perspectives from volunteers of diverse ethnic, cultural, and family backgrounds are always appreciated. Please complete this form if you're interested in participating.
Updated In-person Health and Safety Guidelines
Whether your family is new to in-person learning this semester or returning, if you have not already had a chance, please take a few minutes to review the elementary guidelines.

The guidelines have been updated with the latest health protocols and modifications we have made to accommodate the colder weather.
Fourth Grade: Request for Advanced Math Placement Review
If your child is not currently placed in advanced math and you wish to request a math placement review, a parent nomination form must be completed and returned to the school principal and the building GT services coordinator by January 19, 2020.

Parent nomination forms can be found on the District 28 website, under Gifted and Talented. Please visit our website for additional information on the district’s Gifted and Talented Services and District assessments.

Please note, all students are reviewed for math placement in the winter and spring of their 5th-grade year. This process determines placement for 6th grade into one of three math courses: Grade 6, Accelerated 6 or Pre-Algebra 6.
Valentine's Day
With our continued focus on safety precautions, we will not be able to allow students to exchange Valentine's Day cards this year. Teachers will still find ways to celebrate the holiday but we will not be able to follow our tradition of students bringing cards/gifts to pass out.

To new families joining RLA, welcome! Please check this section each week for RLA news and notes.

CogAt Testing in February for 3rd and 5th Grade
Parents of 3rd- and 5th-grade students should have received an email last week about CogAT testing that will take place in February. In order to ensure a successful testing experience for all, we are planning to administer the CogAT in-person at school, including for RLA students. Third-grade students will test from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 1, Tuesday, Feb. 2, and Wednesday, Feb. 3. Fifth-grade students will test from 9:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 8, Tuesday, Feb. 9, and Wednesday, Feb. 10.
Our principals have identified testing locations that will have safety protocols in place, including 6-foot social distancing, face coverings, and sanitizing of testing locations. You will receive additional reminders and information closer to the testing dates. Please contact your principal if you have questions.
