5 EASY WAYS
TO KEEP YOUR DOGS' TEETH CLEAN
While February might have been National Pet Dental Hygiene Month, good dental care for your dogs should happen year-round.

Thankfully, cleaning your canine companion’s teeth is surprisingly simple even on a tight schedule. Even the busiest dog owners can easily incorporate these practices with just a few minutes each week so your four-footed friend’s pearly whites will sparkle for years to come. These five easy ways to keep your dog’s dental health in top-notch condition will save your dog’s teeth and your time.

Check out these 5 easy ways from akc.org to help clean your canine's teeth.

1. Brush Your Dogs Teeth with Delicious Toothpaste

It is ideal to brush your dogs teeth daily, however, if you do not have time for that, once a week should suffice. Over time, most dogs will tolerate you brushing their teeth, even if they do not like it at first. Be sure to use Dog Specific Toothpaste, as human toothpaste is toxic to our furry friends.
2. Nibble on Dog Dental Chews.

Dental chews are great at preventing plaque build-up, give your dog something to do, stimulates your dog's natural cravings for a treat, and help encourage blood flow through the gums. Always supervise your dog when they have a dental chew with-in reach.
3. Spritz Dog Dental Spray.

This is great if you only have a short amount of time to spare. These sprays kill plaque-causing bacteria to make your dog's breath smell fresh. Most sprays simply require owners to spritz the teeth and gums. Since some dogs just won’t stay still for an oral cleaning, dental sprays can also be applied to dog toys and licked off for instant fresh breath with minimal effort. These work best when dogs don’t eat for a half hour before and after spraying.
4. Gnaw on Chew Toys.

When it comes to keeping your dog busy and entertained, chew toys are one of the best solutions. Providing dogs with a chew toy satisfies their natural instincts to chew, keeps them occupied, and helps improve their oral health.
5. Attend Regular Professional Dental Cleanings.

An essential way to protect your furry friend’s oral health is through regular professional cleanings with your veterinarian. Veterinarians are skilled at identifying, preventing, and treating any dental problems they find that may otherwise go unnoticed.

Well, things have been up and down with Gabby the last 4 months. Our sweet senior Gabby came into rescue in early 2021 and just hasn't seemed to be able to catch a break, though you'd never know it with how cuddly and loving she is.

Her teeth were cleaned and look beautiful now and we've gotten her through a number of infections over the better part of 2021 and just when we thought she'd finally be able to be adopted, her foster mom noticed some limping and swelling in her right front leg. After a couple weeks of rest and pain meds without relief, we took her to the vet for x-rays and received the devastating news that she has osteosarcoma, yes, as in bone cancer. Due to Gabby's age and some arthritis, she is not a candidate for amputation. Gabby has a zest for life that not all 9 ¾ year olds have. She is not ready to throw in the towel and we are not giving up on her.

Gabby’s vet put her on a number of supplements and treatments that have shown positive results in other osteosarcoma pups, so we are doing what we can while she is showing us that she is still enjoying life. Unfortunately, this care comes at a cost and we could certainly use your donations. Would you be willing to be a part of Sweet Gabby's story and help us cover her treatments so we can keep her happy, comfortable and give her more time to share her love and beauty with the world.

Phoebe

Well, just look at Me – Phoebe from Mimi’s litter! I’m home with my new Dad and Mom in Colorado!  They have lots of Dane experience and will be just the right people to help me become the beautiful lady I am destined to be. Dad is a long time volunteer for the Rescue and they have adopted from RMGDRI before.
I am looking forward to my long walks and hikes every day – and meeting my new big sisters – a Great Dane and a Cat.
Duke (Fawnequin)

Giddy Up – I’m staying home!  To all of you who have asked about me, my Foster Family fell in love with me and I get to stay with them FUREVER in Colorado. They have lots of Great Dane Experience, and they have adopted from our Rescue in the past. I have already inspected and approved the home, so I’m sticking with them!
Brandi

This Ol’ Gal found a great home in Oklahoma! My new mom has fostered and adopted many dogs through the years, many of them in their Golden Years, so she knows just how to care for me. I will have a Foster Brother and two Foster Sisters and I will get to go on walks with them through the neighborhood! I just love this Rescue!
Max

Oh Yes I DO!  I wiggled my little way into the hearts of my Foster Family and they want to keep me! Yippee, I have a little hooman girl to play with and some cats – and we are the same size. For now, tee hee.
I get to go for walks and doggie day care and all sorts of new things as I grow up with my furever family. My family has renamed me Pickles!
Lucy

I LOVE LUCY! That’s what Foster Mom said so I’m staying right here with her and our cat here in Colorado.

I get to go on walks and have doggie friends over and snuggle with my new Mom! And if I misbehave, the cat has some ‘splainin’ to do, hee hee.
Dozer

I have a home in Montana! I’m 8 years old, but run around my new Dad’s property like I was a puppy! I share my home with 3 other Great Danes; Sully & Molly who also were adopted from RMGDRI, and Chayse, who is not an alumni, but a really cool pup too. I like to snuggle with my Dad, and make a puppy pile with my brothers and sister when we are not running and playing. I am living the good life, and am so happy my Dad and I found each other!
