The CSG West family extends their sympathy to the family, friends, and colleagues of Utah Representative LaWanna "Lou" Shurtliff who passed away just before the new year. In addition to her legislative efforts, she was a high school teacher for many years. A devoted public servant, she transferred her passion for helping others from the classroom to the legislature. Strengthening Legislative Oversight
During a recent virtual session, the CSG West Legislative Oversight Working Group hosted a discussion highlighting the tools and procedures employed by legislators and committees for legislative oversight. Participating legislators shared experiences and insights prompting a robust conversation. Additionally, the Western Legislative Oversight Handbook was unveiled offering details of legislative oversight procedures engaged in western states. Applications Open for 2021 WLA Class
The Western Legislative Academy (WLA) has convened twenty classes of state legislators since its inception in 2000. Welcoming class members to an intensive training experience each year, the WLA looks forward to reconvening the program on December 7-10, 2021.
