OUR MISSION:
St. Rita School inspires students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade eight to achieve academic excellence in a safe, nurturing and faith-filled Catholic environment.
We prepare students to be morally responsible, innovative thinkers who, in today’s technology-guided global community, live and share the Love of Christ.
From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi
Dear SRS Parents and Guardians,

Today, Ash Wednesday, we begin the Liturgical season of Lent. It is a day of fasting and prayer. This year Pope Francis has asked us to pray for lasting peace in Ukraine. Please take some time with your family, today and everyday, to ask Mary, Queen of Peace to lead the world to live in the peace of Christ.

As we all know, Lent was the time that Jesus retreated into the desert for forty days to prepare for His ministry. It was for Him a time of reflection and contemplation. For us, Lent is time to find occasions when we create a little emptiness and silence around us, rediscover the road to our heart, remove ourselves from the noise of external distractions, enter into contact with the deepest source of our being and faith.

Throughout these forty days of Lent, our faculty and students will focus on prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Our goal is to get our students to think beyond themselves and to focus on kindness and mercy towards others. Please look over the introductory letter which was sent home with your child today regarding our school-wide Lenten service project for 2022 which is the Make A Wish Foundation. If possible, please have your child/ren do an extra chore, give up a lunchtime snack or trip to the school store and have that money go towards this very worthwhile organization.

Congratulations to Mrs. Denise Gertz, one of our second grade teachers, who has been chosen by the Superintendent of Catholic Schools as one of ten Archdiocesan teachers to receive the “Light of Christ” Award from the Hartford Bishops’ Foundation. This award honors outstanding educators in our Catholic schools. Mrs. Gertz will be honored at the upcoming Teachers’ Faith Formation Conference on March 18. We are grateful to Mrs. Gertz for her innovation, collaboration and enthusiasm in the classroom, and her commitment and dedication to her students.

The dates for First Communion and Graduation are now finalized. Our First Communion Mass will take place at St. Rita Church on Saturday, May 7 at 10:00 A.M. Graduation for the Class of 2022 will take place at St. Rita Church on Friday, June 3 at 6:30 P.M. Since the COVID numbers continue to decrease and masks have become optional, there are no longer any restrictions to limit capacity in church. Feel free to make your plans accordingly.

Next week will be very busy here at St. Rita School. “Senior Night” for our 8th grade athletes is scheduled for Sunday between basketball games at SHA, our annual Book Fair opens on Wednesday, the second trimester ends on Friday, and optional parent teacher conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday next week (both days are early dismissal days with no lunch or aftercare). In addition, daylight savings time begins on Sunday, March 13.

During this season of Lent, Pope Francis invites the faithful to sow seeds of goodness so that we might reap a harvest of salvation for ourselves and others. Throughout the next 40 days, let us take some time as a family to reflect, pray, and sacrifice, and by doing so, grow closer to God, the church and each other. Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care.

God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi

The Respect Life Club is an opportunity for students in grades 6 through 8 to grow in their appreciation of the dignity of all human life, to raise awareness among the student body to the importance of supporting life in each other, and respecting life in the environment.

Our mission is to

  • Promote an active culture of respect for human life through prayer, education, awareness, and participation in community service;

  • Reinforce Saint Paul VI's mission to uphold the dignity of the person and to teach respect for others as unique individuals and as members of the body of Christ;

  • Prepare the youth to be leaders within Church, local, and global communities to protect human life through all of life's stages, ages and levels of development.

Students experience fun activities, and numerous opportunities to serve others, while being reminded of the God given dignity of all human life.

We will meet the third Tuesday of each month after school from 3 - 4 in Room 9. Meetings will be held March 15, April 26 (due to April break), and May 17.
