Happy Arbor Day!

Today, April 29, 2022, is the 150th annual Arbor Day in the U.S., and the City of Cleveland Heights celebrated with TWO Arbor Day events.

Mayor Seren, Cleveland Heights City Council members, and residents gathered to plant a Northern Red Oak in front of the Cleveland Heights Community Center. Mayor Seren read and signed the City's annual Arbor Day proclamation that celebrated Cleveland Heights being named a "Tree City USA" by the Arbor Day Foundation for the 46th consecutive year.
Later in the day, Mayor Seren joined University Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan to plant a new street tree on Washington Boulevard in front of the Delisle Options Center.

During the 2020 Census Drive, Cleveland Heights and University Heights engaged in a friendly wager to see which city could count the most residents during June 2020. While University Heights' efforts succeeded in getting more missing residents counted overall, Cleveland Heights won for the month of June.

Mayor Brennan paid off the bet by having the City of University Heights plant a new tree on the Cleveland Heights side of Washington Boulevard, where residents of both cities can enjoy it.
Cleveland Heights City Council Meetings: Monday, May 2

Both meetings will be streamed live and may be viewed on the City's YouTube channel. The agenda may be found on the City's website. For more City meetings and event listings, please visit the City's calendar..
Plastic Recycling with Your New Recycling Carts

"If It Has a Neck, You Don’t Have to Check.
When in Doubt, Throw it out."

Not all plastics are created—or recycled—equally. Only about 9% of the plastic packaging used today can be currently recycled.

The Cleveland Heights recycling program ONLY accepts plastic bottles and jugs. An easy way to remember what CAN be recycled is that bottles or jugs with necks—that narrow toward the opening—are recyclable. These items should be rinsed, recapped, and placed loosely (not in bags) in your blue recycling cart for collection.
Including non-recyclable plastic in your recycling cart contaminates those items that CAN be recycled and may result in more items going to the landfill and higher costs for the city.

Please do NOT place the following items in your blue recycling cart:

  • NO plastic bags or wraps
  • NO plastic coffee pods, plates, or utensils.
  • NO yogurt cups or tubs
  • NO whipped topping, butter/margarine, cottage cheese containers.
  • NO clamshells, fruit or pudding cups, or produce containers
  • NO prescription medication bottles.
  • NO flower pots.
  • NO plastic packaging.
  • NO spray nozzles or pumps.
  • NO takeout containers or Styrofoam.
  • NO hangers, durable plastic, rigid vinyl, or plastic toys.
  • NO cat litter containers and 5-gallon buckets.
  • NO empty motor oil and antifreeze jugs
  • NO plastic 6-pack rings.

Bulk Item Pick-Up: Week of May 2

Bulk item pick-up will occur on residents' scheduled collection days during the week of May 2.

The City of Cleveland Heights accepts bulk items for collection on residents' scheduled collection days during the first whole week (Monday-Friday) of each month. The City will collect up to four (4) bulk items from each household at no extra charge for residents.

All soft furniture, mattresses, and box springs should be wrapped in plastic before placing them on your tree lawn. To protect area children, refrigerators MUST have their doors removed before being set out for collection.

Residents may request the City pick up additional bulk itemsbeyond the four items permitted per weekby visiting the City's bulk/brush request page.

Up to 10 items may be scheduled for pick-up on your scheduled collection day or a non-scheduled collection day for $10 per item. All payments must be made in advance of the pick-up.
Meet Your Police: Thursday, May 5, 6:00-8:00 pm

Guest Column, Mayor Kahlil Seren

"...We don’t pursue development because we like to build things. We bring development to Cleveland Heights because it allows us to attract more people.

People are the key to making Cleveland Heights such a great place: People who visit here, who work or do business here, and people who call Cleveland Heights home – or might like to.

We’re working hard to attract development that fits our city, respects our history, and helps make our community more vibrant, sustainable, and resilient." Read more...
