Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to provide information on two free webinars being held on February 10th and 14th.
The first webinar:

The NTG Early Detection Screen for Dementia (NTG-EDSD): A tool to track cognitive and functional changes in adults with IDD.

Thursday, February 10, 2022 from 4 to 5:30 pm

The webinar speaker is psychologist Lucille Esralew, Ph.D. She is a long-time member of our Advisory Board and has many years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who have coexisting behavioral health challenges. Dr. Esralew is also a founding member of the National Task Group (NTG) on Intellectual Disability and Dementia Practices.
The NTG-Early Detection Screen for Dementia (NTG-EDSD) was developed in response to requests by family caregivers and agencies for a tool useful to record observations of changes in function.  The NTG-EDSD is used in starting that critical conversation with (and among) clinical personnel as to whether their observations merit more explicit assessment for MCI or dementia or -- alternatively – signal behaviors that may be amenable to intervention and remediation.
The second webinar:

“The Way Forward: Living Well During COVID”

Monday, Feb 14, 2022 from 3 to 4:30pm EST

The expert panel includes Kim Hing, self-advocate Special Olympics Athlete, Peter Hotez, MD PhD Dean of the National School of Tropical Medicine and Professor of Pediatrics and Molecular Virology & Microbiology at Baylor College of Medicine where he is also the Co-director of the Texas Children’s Center for Vaccine Development (CVD) MD, PhD, Emily Hotez, PhD, Assistant Professor, David Geffen School of Medicine, UCLA, John Raffaele, Director of Educational Services at National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals (NADSP) and Ben Margolis, MD, Psychiatrist and AADMD Board Member.
AADMD is bringing together national experts in COVID-19 and IDD to give a much needed perspective on how to navigate the days and months ahead. We will discuss how to provide a measured response to ensure freedom from illness and at the same time provide physical wellness and happiness.
