What a special way to celebrate World Habitat Day and President Carter’s 99th Birthday! The 37th Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project was a weeklong transformative event hosted by Habitat Humanitarians Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood in Charlotte, North Carolina. A couple thousand volunteers, including our own Habitat LA President & CEO, Erin Rank, gathered to build 27 new affordable homes in The Meadows at Plato Price. The site is a historic neighborhood where an all-Black school once stood and served as a transformative education and civic space for the Black community from the early 1900s to the mid-1960s.
Although the beloved former president and first lady were unable to attend the project, their presence was felt and celebrated. “Though we could never fill their shoes, we are so incredibly honored to be given the opportunity to carry President and Mrs. Carter’s legacy forward through the continuation of the Carter Work Project,” said Garth Brooks.
