Match Up Opportunity | Fr. Roman
The later of James states, “You do not have because you do not ask God” (4:2b.) Well, after much praying for the financial provision necessary to replace all roofs and at least three air conditioning units, I presented the need to all our congregants this last Sunday at the 9:00 am and 11:00 am services. To summarize, I mentioned that we have five roof-leaks we are actively working on, putting band-aids until we fundraise the 107,000 dollars our roofers quoted us a few months back. In addition, I mentioned that we have three air-conditioning units in need of immediate replacement. A conservative total to do all repairs is approximately $250,000. And, of course, we don’t know what roofers will find when they remove the old roof and inspect the deck underneath. If water intrusion has damaged the wood, the expenses can rise.

My announcement in church was well received and there was a fair degree of consensus to borrow some money from our bank to get this work done immediately, with the promise that we can always do a capital funds campaign in the near future to retire the debt. Although this was a good plan, GOD HAD ANOTHER PLAN. At the end of the 11:00 am service, a couple from our church came to me and said, “We would like to pay for the replacement of all the roofs.” I am seldom speechless, but I was moved to the core by their generous offer. I asked for additional information and they stated, “We would like to give you $150,000 and we want you to request a match from the rest of the congregation, so we may do the work without creating debt for the church.”

So, from August 10 through September 10, we are running a campaign to match as much of the 150,000 dollars as possible. This is a month of generosity and a month to get fired up about the great potential we have to grow this church in the next few years. God has a mission for us and the early signs of new life we are seeing are very uplifting and encouraging. Please join us in this campaign. We need 15 families to give us $10,000 each, or 30 families who can give us $5,000, or 50 families who can give us $3,000, or a combination of families who can give generously towards this goal. We will gladly accept any and all donations. Please write the check to Saint Dunstan’s Episcopal Church with the MEMO: Maintenance. You can always log on to our website and contribute online. You can also click here to go to our paypal donation page directly.

If anyone has any questions about our maintenance needs or ways to contribute, please contact Laurie Riggs. Finally, please join us in expressing our gratitude to God and our generous parishioners for this great gift. God is good always. To him be the glory for ever and ever. Amen!
