Utility Box Artwork Installations

The City of Solana Beach is dedicated to nurturing a vibrant and artistic community. To continue expanding on its ongoing mission, the City initiated the Solana Beach Utility Box Wrap Project, inviting artists of all kinds – including graphic designers, photographers, and illustrators – to participate by creating artistic wraps for select utility boxes. The goal was to use art to transform ordinary infrastructure into public works of art.

After a competitive selection process overseen by the members of the Solana Beach Public Arts Commission, six artists were chosen to design artwork for wrapping seven utility and traffic signal boxes across six different locations along Lomas Santa Fe Drive and the Coastal Rail Trail. These selected designs were officially installed last week, and the City is proud to present them to the community!

High Surf Advisory

The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory due to Typhoon Bolaven, which will bring extremely large breaking waves starting today, October 19th and continuing through the weekend. It is strongly advised to refrain from beach walking during these high surf conditions, as it can be extremely dangerous. What appears to be a beautiful, spacious beach can quickly disappear in a matter of seconds due to rogue wave surges that can reach the base of the bluffs. Rip currents and longshore currents will be exceptionally strong today and tomorrow, October 20th. Beachgoers are urged to exercise caution from now through Saturday, October 21st.

Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive

During the month of October, the City of Solana Beach has partnered with the North County Food Bank for their Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. We encourage you to support this campaign by donating unopened jars of peanut butter to help feed local children living in poverty. Why Peanut Butter? Peanut butter is an excellent source of protein for children and families. It is popular with kids, it’s shelf-stable and one jar can provide more than 12 sandwiches. There are two ways you can participate in the Scare Away Hunger Peanut Butter Drive. You can drop off donations at City Hall or you can make a donation securely online through the Virtual Food Drive platform.
