Dear Colleagues,

It is back to school season! It is great to see classrooms full again, children reconnecting with their classmates and teachers doing what they do best – teach.

We continue to be able to support educators in the county with professional development opportunities. I realize it is a busy time of year but please take a few minutes to look through the resources listed below. Many are free and online.

Our TUPE program has released a new free guidebook, Substance Use, Mental Health and Teens: A Guide for Parents and Other Caring Adults which focuses on information and resources to protect and care for teens facing substance use and mental health crises and is published in English and Spanish. Feel free to share the guide with anyone who may be interested.

Thank you for being an inspiration to your students and the educational community, and for the work you do every day for the students of Contra Costa County.

Have a great school year,

Lynn Mackey

National Immunization Awareness Month

By getting vaccinated, you can protect yourself and also avoid spreading preventable diseases to other people in your community. Some people cannot get certain vaccines because they are too young or too old or they have a weakened immune system or other serious health condition. Those people are less likely to catch a preventable disease when you and others around them are vaccinated against it. Help protect yourself and the people you love by staying up to date on recommended vaccinations.
