Greetings!
Young people today face a number of challenges, both online and off. Trying to navigate school, relationships, and a digital presence can be incredibly daunting - and full of potential risks.
That's why LA Civil Rights is hosting REAL TALK, a live conversation with Jonathan Cristall, author of "What They Don't Teach Teens," Raul Diaz of Homeboy Industries, Psychologist Dr. Kenji Jones, and LA City Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez about digital safety and mental health. The event starts this Tuesday, and I hope you'll join us.
I know that when I was growing up in LA, things weren't always easy. The future was often uncertain, and it was through the support of mentors that I was able to graduate, get to college, and serve my city. Today's young people have it even harder - navigating real-life challenges and a digital presence that affects their future and their mental wellbeing. At a time when we are more online than ever before, REAL TALK will give the tools and tips to stay safe, stay healthy, and stay focused.
The conversation kicks off on Tuesday, April 13, at 5:30 pm.
See you there,
- Capri Maddox
Executive Director,
Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department

There is no recovery from COVID-19 without an equitable recovery, and that's why LA Civil Rights is partnering with health, faith and community organizations on putting equity in our COVID response. Whether it's bringing PPE to frontline workers or bringing vaccines to the hardest-hit communities, LA Civil Rights is working to build a recovery rooted in equity.
