ISW President's Message
Dear ISW Supporters
As India Celebrates its 74th year of Independence from colonialism, the India Society of Worcester continued our 31-year-old tradition and celebrated India Day at our newly expanded India Center in Shrewsbury. For many this was a dream come true, to celebrate the occasion at our own community center bringing together the entire community. On Saturday August 7th, the dream became a reality with more than 700 people walking through the center, enjoying the musical and cultural show, the Indian bazar, delicious Indian food, and Mallakhamb (A traditional Indian exercise form), and many more interesting displays.
The happy, excited community members represented yet another a sign of a return to a normal life. ISW volunteers converted the India Center into a mini Indian mela while our choreographers put up an amazing show full of energy and Happiness, the theme of the event. Eager participants of all ages competed in the Chess and Art competitions. As a final touch, the Mayor of Worcester read a proclamation declaring August 7th, 2021 as India Day.
We hope this is the first of many exciting activities and events at the India Center that will engage all of our community in the coming months. We look forward to welcoming you. For those who were unable to attend, we share some excerpts from the amazing day with you in this special edition of eSandesh. We thank all our sponsors and volunteers without who's support this would not have been possible.
Puneet Kohli, President India Society of Worcester
