Dorothy “Dottie” Barton is one of Palmetto Bay’s original pioneers. In 1966, she and her husband Bruce built their second home, in what was then a mango grove beginning to be developed. Today we call it Palmetto Bay! Mrs. Barton (or Dottie as we like to call her) was always passionate about growing the neighborhood and developing the community. For many years, she served as President of the Southwood Homeowners Association. In this leadership role, she was instrumental in the creation and realization of the first park in the Village, the beautiful Coral Reef Park. She was committed to giving the families in this community a place where their children could have a safe place to play. Dottie was very involved in Palmetto Bay's incorporation and always believed in the magic of this community. After Palmetto Bay incorporated, she remained involved and served as a key member of the Events Committee, assisting with the planning and execution of many Village events we still celebrate today including the popular Annual Picnic Celebration. Dottie and Bruce raised their two daughters in Palmetto Bay. One of their two grandchildren presently works at the Golden Rule Seafood restaurant.
We salute you and thank you for your dedication, commitment, and love to our Palmetto Bay! Thank you for creating so many beautiful memories here with us!
