I am drafting this while watching the news of our US Capitol being breached by rioters on Jan. 6, 2021. This is not a place for political commentary, however, my feelings are not ones of politics, but ones of humanity, understanding, inclusion and community. Although there are bound to be national and global repercussions to these events, in an attempt to mitigate the looming sense of overwhelm and heartbreak, I'm concentrating on my local community which includes Connecticut, Manchester and WORK_SPACE. This allows me to feel grateful for the intentions and efforts to foster equity, collaboration and opportunities for people to share ideas, opinions and resources. Although we are in the early stages of many conversations and initiatives throughout the state and our town, I find solace in the fact that they are happening.
For those in Manchester who are seeking to be part of a community that cares, please contact me so I can direct you to the many wonderful people I work with as we have a vibrant Senior Center, an active department of Family, Leisure and Recreation, a dedicated department of Planning and Economic Development and many more resources. We are all working together to tend to certain issues that need improvements and proactively create positive opportunities and connections.
For those who are eager to dive into dialogue immediately, join us this weekend for the Equity Symposium taking place online Saturday and Sunday (Jan. 9 & 10, 2021). Please scroll down to see welcome video and click the link to see speakers, schedule and free registration.
Wishing you a 2021 filled with much health and happiness,
Stacey Zackin, Manager of WORK_SPACE
