Our SD Teams are Moving Up!
It is a LOT of work to become a service dog.
First, the puppy must be raised, loved, exposed to the world, and evaluated. Then, when the dog is 16-18 months, the dog spends some time with our certified Service Dog Trainers. During this time, the trainers evaluate the dog. When the dog meets all the milestones, both for health and behavior, the dog transitions to its Handler. With the Handler, the dog and handler work together to hone in tasking skills and working towards three important tests that MSD-WCP requires every service dog in training (SDiT) to pass. These tests are the Canine Good Citizen (CGC), Canine Good Citizen Urban (CGCU), and the Public Access Test (PAT). Once these tests are passed, the dog goes from a service dog in training (SDiT) to a working service dog (SD). The Service Dog Team will take the PAT each year.
Every Service Dog Team must train and work daily to fine-tune the dog's skills to ensure that they are always prepared to do their tasks. We know it is a lot of work and we are over the moon to announce that three of our teams have passed the tests, put in the work, and are working Service Dog teams out in the world, putting the FUN in FUNctional independence!
Congratulations to our newest Rockstar Service Dog Teams
