Kettle Moraine High School will be holding a variety of opportunities for virtual conferences between February 22nd-March 5th. These virtual conferences will include teachers, learners and parents/guardians.

If your student(s) is quarantined due to COVID, the appropriate attendance code is entered into Infinite Campus so teachers are aware they will be engaging virtually.

It is NOT necessary for parents or guardians to enter an absence for their quarantined student UNLESS your student is too ill to engage virtually.

A new COVID testing site at Summit Clinical Labs in Delafield is now open. Community testing sites are coordinated through Waukesha County Public Health and the Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management and are open six days a week.

Junior Dylan H. was awarded a Gold Key, the contest’s top honor. Dylan explained "That day, my little brother woke up really early because it was his first day of school. He was so tired he fell asleep on the kitchen counter during breakfast. I had my sketchbook with me so I drew the portrait before he woke up."

Junior Lily G. and First-Year Ashlynn P-S. took home Silver Keys.

And honorable mentions went to first Years, Ashlynn P-S. (with 2) and Taylor M., Juniors, Kenzie G. and Adan D-Q. and Seniors, Nate S., Hunter P-S., and Lauren W.

Only 99 Gold Keys were awarded out of 2000 entries in Wisconsin, representing the top 5% of all entrants. The 235 Silver Keys awarded represent the top 15% and the 450 Honorable Mentions represent the top 35% of all entrants.

To put our numbers in perspective, long-established Art powerhouses can receive 25-30 total awards. However, Arrowhead only received 3 awards this year, including 1 gold and 1 silver. Oconomowoc had 9 total awards including 2 golds and 2 silvers.

KM did break into the top 10 high schools in the state this year and the Art Department feels we have the talent here to do even better next year. So drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, and pathways students ask your art teacher about how to submit work for next year’s contest!

Each year, the Kettle Moraine School District has a District Choral Festival featuring all of the choirs in the district (6th-12th grade). For our younger students this is a great opportunity to hear and see what choir is like in high school. For our older students this is a fun walk down memory lane with a lot of disbelief that they also once sounded so young. It is a great way for the community and our students to see how much students grow and develop as singers and musicians in the choir programs in our district.

Due to our continued mitigation strategies, bringing all of the singers and an audience together this year was not an option. So instead we made a video with a glimpse into what each choir has been working on this winter as well as some quotations and videos from choir students in the district. Our main goal was to continue the tradition of allowing our students to see the choir program as a whole and remind them why students choose to stay involved in music. The video was shared with our choir classes as well as sent home for parents to enjoy.

KM Interact/Global is doing a hygiene drive until March 13th. Items collected will be donated to St. Ben’s Homeless Shelter in Milwaukee. Please donate unopened: lotion, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, hairbrushes, combs, soap, hand sanitizer, wipes, masks, or any other hygiene products you may have! Those hotel soaps and shampoos that you have in your linen closet piling up are perfect.

Donation boxes can be found in Global or donations can be dropped off at the front office.

Congratulations on a very successful WNKMP Swim season! Our KM students: Andrew H., Tyler H., Drew M., Cory M. (Sectional Champ) WON the 200 Medley Relay!

The Mukwonago/Kettle Moraine gymnastics team became sectional champions last night with a season-high team score of 139.325. Senior Kaitlyn H. tied for 5th on beam with a score of 9.15 and qualified for state as an individual. The team will be competing at state next Saturday in Wisconsin Rapids.

Congratulations to the Girls Ski Team with an impressive 6th place finish at State! Great Teamwork by Kiera C., Ella W., Gloria T., Nicole W., Megan R., Flynn G., and Penelope W. Individually: Gloria T. took 7th in Slalom and 13th Overall. Ella W. was a medalist in the Giant Slalom and also finished 6th in Super G event.

Boys took 16th overall at State with solid team finishes by Hudson K., John M., Simon P., Michael W., Cole T., and Dillon S.

The KMHS varsity cheer team placed first in their division (non-stunt) on Saturday February 6 at the Oak Creek Cheer Competition and second in their division (non-stunt) on Saturday January 30 at Kettle Moraine Lutheran.

It is particularly important to reiterate safe parking lot procedures as we have extraordinary conditions that are unique to winters in Wisconsin. With that in mind:

Please also discuss with your student(s) the message shown below that shared with students this week that outlines a number of other parking lot safety considerations.

Review the parking regulations outlined in the student handbook on page 24 to keep them fresh in your minds. Violations of the parking regulations may result in the loss of a parking permit, or towed and/or ticketed vehicles.

Due to inclement weather, it may be necessary to close school buildings for the entire day, or release a school early. When school buildings are closed, students and staff in grades 6 - 12 will engage in distance learning according to their regular schedule of classes.

The decision to close a school building is only made after careful consideration of the best information available. The Superintendent takes several steps each time consideration is given to closing school buildings:

Students that arrive late without parents indicating late arrival through the infinite campus portal will be marked tardy unexcused.

To create a full day absence, arrive late, or leave early request simply logon to Infinite Campus, select "More" and complete the "Absence Request" form. Once a leave early request is processed, students will AUTOMATICALLY be notified of their approved leave and asked to show their teacher the email when they leave and go to the front office attendance window to scan out. Please allow 1 hour for any full day or leave early requests.
