New Exhibit Opens August 10, 2023 | |
The Washington County Arts Council presents the Hagerstown Photography Group exhibiting in the galleries from August 10, 2023 through September 5, 2023, with an Opening Reception at the Gallery, Thursday, August 10, 2023 from 5pm until 7pm. An online virtual exhibit will be available on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at https://www.washingtoncountyarts.com/
“Members of Hagerstown Photographers Group share a love of all types of photography including / Scenic / Sports / Portraits / Public Events / Adventure photography / Urban- Cityscape / Travel and Wildlife Photography. Members encourage and support one another in all levels of photography skills, and they help each other get to where they want to be in photography. The group has seen a tremendous growth in the skills of its members and will continue to do so as they support all those with a love of photography.”

5th Annual Washington Goes Purple
2023 Call for Artists
The Washington County Arts Council, Inc. (WCAC) and Washington Goes Purple invite local artists working in any medium to submit their art for the September 2023 exhibit, “A Journey Through Addiction and Recovery.” The juried community art exhibit be on display in the gallery from September 7, 2023 through October 3, 2023 and virtually beginning, September 9, 2023.
“A Journey Through Addiction and Recovery - The journey through addiction and recovery looks different for everyone but the outcome benefits individuals, families, and our community. Help us celebrate those who have traveled this path and instill hope in those who are continuing on this journey.”

From those abandoned to the ones brought back to life, Washington County has a hidden treasure trove of historic schoolhouses waiting to be discovered!
On Friday, August 11, 2023, 6:00 PM, join Henry Recker, a Smithsburg Middle School student, who will showcase Washington County’s historic schoolhouses. The talk will feature photographs taken by Henry and from the WCHS archives.
This month’s drink is the Roaring Rob Roy, a cocktail for Scotch lovers and enjoyers. Doors open at 5:30 PM and light hors d' oeuvres will be served!

Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro
Gallery 50 hosts opening reception on August 11, 2023
Gallery 50 hosts an opening reception for a new art exhibition, “This Majestical Roof: Impressions of Sky,” on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 5:30–8 p.m. at 50 West Main Street in downtown Waynesboro. The evening will showcase the new artwork and include free refreshments in addition to live music from Soleil in the adjacent Music Makers space.
The eight featured artists are Margery Benson, Joan Lee, Leslie McEntire, Laurie McKelvie, Rebecca Pollard Myers, Jaci Rice, Sandra Schuster, and Amélie Lavenant-Wink.
The gallery will also have new fine art and crafts by local artists available on the shelves, including pottery, jewelry, wood carvings, stained glass art, and more.
Following the reception, the exhibit will be on display through October 28. Gallery 50 is open on Fridays from 5–8 p.m., Saturdays from 11:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m., and by appointment. In addition, the full exhibit will soon be available to browse and purchase on the gallery’s online shop at gallery50-aagw.square.site
Gallery 50 is owned and operated by the Arts Alliance of Greater Waynesboro and spotlights fine art and high-quality crafts from local artists and artisans.

What better way to celebrate the last weekend before back to school than joining us on South Potomac Street for the Dog Days of Summer! Wind Down will close S. Potomac Street and feature live music from the Nathan Bartgis Band on the steps of The Maryland Theatre along with activities for all ages.
The evening will include the following for FREE:

Airbrush Class (Morning or Evening)
Join David Monet and learn the fundamentals of airbrushing, starting with the basics of cleaning and maintaining the airbrush and lessons on basic techniques. Students will be offered personalized assistance based on individual interest such as model building, illustration, and cake decorating.
Class Dates: Mondays, September 11 - Oct. 16 OR Wednesdays, September 13 - Oct. 18
Times: 10 am - 12 pm (Mondays) OR 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm (Wednesdays)

Creative Acrylic Painting
Explore the beauty of acrylic painting in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. This is an open studio style class in which each student works on their own project with friendly guidance from the instructor. Expect to work on at least one major painting. Bring your questions and ideas to share!

The Washington County Playhouse Dinner Theater is proud to present their next MainStage performance of 2023, Misery! This thriller opens September 15, 2023, at The Playhouse.
Directed by Rennes Carbaugh, Stephen King's Misery follows successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, who is rescued from a car crash by his "number one fan", Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. This talented cast includes Tod Williams, Jeannie Militio, and Matthew Henning.
The show is preceded by dinner featuring dinner rolls, plated salad, dinner, dessert, and coffee, tea, and iced tea. A full service cash bar is available. Bar tab and gratuity not included.
Misery plays September 15 - October 22 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 6PM and select Sunday matinees at 1PM.
The Washington County Playhouse is located at 44 North Potomac Street, Rear. Since 1985, The Playhouse has been entertaining guests in the heart of Hagerstown's Arts and Entertainment District and City Center.
Tickets (include dinner and show) cost $63.00 for Adults, and $57.00 for Active Military and First Responders. Tickets can be purchased at www.washingtoncountyplayhouse.com or by calling (301)739-7469.
