FEATURED ARTIST: C.M. Judge
Meet July featured artist - C.M. Judge.
In her own words:
"My art making, whether drawing, painting, sculpture, video or installation involves “prayerful illumination” -- a kind of looking/feeling/being present to the miraculous world. I'm intrigued by the confluence of our everyday experiences that bring awareness of the divine. Beauty elevates experience, soulfully reminding us to be present and grateful for life’s many gifts. My art becomes a conduit for these intimate things. I work at Moongate Studio in Fitchburg, MA.
I’m grateful to photographer, Elsa Voelcker for insisting I join her at a WCA meeting over twenty years ago in New Hampshire. I was pregnant with my son. She exclaimed, ‘Now you are really going to need an art group!’ — such a wise and caring call to action. I was immediately drawn to the artists in the group for their integrity and talent. It’s been a privilege to have served in WCA leadership with so many remarkable women locally and nationally over the years
.
The pattern for the evolution of my art is one I recognize in other artists: my drawings became paintings; my paintings became sculptures; and my sculptures became installations and videos which in turn inspire my drawings. I tend to work conceptually marrying ideas to materials. Collaboration has been and continues to be important to me. I’ve been blessed with three inspiring creative partnerships. Japanese artist, Atsushi Ogata and I spent twenty years making meditative video installations together. Paula Rendino and I met through WCA and have created a series of poetic installations focussed on women’s roles in society especially bringing attention to collective actions around issues of violence and forgiveness. French artist and curator, Véronique Sapin and I founded the FemLink-Art Collective featuring 145 women video artists from 64 countries. We’re preparing for our 20th anniversary in 2025!
As a teaching artist, I love sharing creative process while facilitating collaborative public art projects involving groups of children, teens, adults and elders. Check out our projects here.
I have two upcoming exhibitions this fall: Contemporary Art Invitational Show at DubHub (Dublin Community Center, NH) opening on Friday, September 8th from 5 - 7 pm and my solo show at Gallery Sitka in Shirley, MA opening on Friday, October 6th from 4:30 - 6:30 pm."
