Hi! I just wanted to check in to see how everyone is holding up.
I hate using the phrase “unprecedented times”, but that is truly what we are living in right now. Events have been canceled. Businesses have adjusted their hours or sadly, closed. Our monthly chamber chats look different now, but we still meet as a small group so those who need that monthly networking to feel connected, still have the opportunity.
We need to think about those who do not feel connected right now. We need to check in.
As COVID-19 enters its second year, the devastation of the pandemic has had a major effect on people’s lives and mental wellbeing. Many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful and overwhelming. Social isolation, the worry about jobs, money, health, and feelings of loss that many of us have experienced may have caused mental anguish.
More than 42% of people surveyed by the US Census Bureau in December 2020 reported symptoms of anxiety or depression. This is an increase from the 11% reported in December of 2019. The deterioration in mental health could last long after the pandemic is over.
Our coping skills have been dealt a hand that is beyond the level that we were used to. Now more than ever, it is important to check in with the people in your life who seem to be struggling– be it a friend or family member. We need to be comfortable reaching out to others to help them.
Beginning the conversation does not mean you have to dive straight into talking about mental health issues, just showing that you are there to listen is a good first step. Make sure to touch base more frequently others that you know have struggled with mental health issues in the past. Do not be the one having regrets that you did not do something. Make the phone call, take the time for a visit, even if everything winds up being fine, the interaction can only help the both of you.
Looking out for the mental health of others is not relegated to only family and friends – we also have employers, employees, and work colleagues to take into consideration. Many employees spend more one-on-one time with coworkers and managers than their own family and friends because of the pandemic. Other employees are isolated working from home because of shutdowns and stay at home orders. Both of these situations have their downfalls and struggles. Keeping an eye open for signs of mental distress may save a life.
Most importantly, never be afraid to ask for help for yourself. Reaching out is hard but you are important to your family, friends, coworkers, and our community.
We have local resources available at the chamber office to help as well. Please call us at 419-468-7737 and let us know that you are “just checking in.”
Remember, be kind to each other and most importantly, yourself.

Galion Historical Society and Museum Press Release-
This is a reminder that the 2021 Veteran Banner Registration will be Thursday, April 15th from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Historic Grace Church. For more information and for answers to frequently asked questions, please click on the button below.
2021 will be the last year that we accept registration for new veteran banners. All banners from 2020 & 2021 will still hang for their two years before being returned to families. We are so proud of this project and the pride our community has taken in honoring our hometown heroes! This decision was not taken lightly. This project has been a huge undertaking and involves the hard work and dedication of so many and we are grateful for everyone who has had a hand in making this project happen for 4 years! It is our sincere hope that another organization or group of passionate people will take over the project and carry it on.

Crestline - The Crestline Community Development Team formally announced Phase 2 of their Community Enhancement Plan in October 2020 with a goal of raising $8,960 to update all four “Welcome to Crestline” signs which are located on each entrance into Crestline on County Road 330 and State Route 61. Thanks to the generosity of Crestline VFW Post 2920, the Crestline Railroad Community Center, and Park National Bank the funding has been secured for this project. This spring the existing signs will be removed one by one, stripped down, and repainted with the new design by American Sign and Banner.

10 years ago, Galion and Bucyrus hospitals merged to form Avita Health System. Thank you for serving our communities for the past decade- we look forward to many more!

Village of Crestline- Cory Spackey was named by Mayor Linda Horning Pitt as the new Village Administrator for Crestline. The Crestline Village Council approved the appointment. Spackey got to work first thing in the morning on Jan. 19. Spackey, who currently lives in Logan, Ohio with his family, will be relocating to Crestline. Welcome to the area, Cory!

Safety Congress Registration Now Open
Registration is now open for the 2021 Ohio Safety Congress & Expo (OSC21)! Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, OSC21 will be a completely online event, including our first-ever digital expo.
Visit the OSC21 website for more information and to register for the event, which will stream live March 10-11, 2021. Now in its 91st year, the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo is the largest and longest-running regional occupational safety, health and workers’ compensation conference in the U.S.
The emergence of COVID-19 in Ohio last spring, forced the cancelation of our in-person event at the Greater Columbus Convention Center, but our first-ever virtual safety congress went on as scheduled. More than 2,600 representatives from Ohio businesses and government attended the event to discover the strategies and tools needed for a healthy, safe, and productive workforce. We’ll see you online for OSC21!
