The Crossing receives $250,000 bequest from Libby Glatfelter

Libby Glatfelter, Getting There
Sometimes friends do the most extraordinary things. And, in doing so, they make a huge difference.
We are missing one of those friends terribly.
The one who left us too soon.
The one who signed one of her last notes to us "sending loving thoughts your way."
The one who continues to send loving thoughts even in her absence.
Libby Glatfelter.

Just before Libby passed away on September 5, she spoke with her daughter Cassandra Kaldor about making a gift to The Crossing that would make a difference. We’ve now received that gift – a truly sustaining and opportunity-opening $250,000.

There is something humbling and reassuring about receiving a gift from someone who knows you cannot thank them. That it is just there, as the purest form of support and friendship. We strive to maintain that ethos in our community, but a reminder like Libby's legacy gift is an invitation to re-evaluate, reset, and rejoice.

We are grateful to Libby, to her family, and to the Anne M. and Philip Glatfelter, III Family Foundation that has, for many years, supported our work through gifts focused directly on singers' pay. We will maintain the spirit of Libby's long-time support by focusing this gift on artistic endeavors: commissions, singers, presentation, and exploration.

With Libby’s transformational support, and the support of friends like her, The Crossing continues its commitment to commissioning, recording, and performing new and diverse works that ask questions about the world we live in. We encourage you to join Libby in supporting that journey.

for The Crossing
Libby, a great artist whose paintings were inspired by her time in the country, lent us her farm in the Fall of 2020 to make some pieces (when performing choral art inside was really challenging). Here is one of those pieces, Ayanna Woods' Shift.
