Dear St. Giles Families,
This week is our final week of Trimester 2. Please review PowerSchool and make sure any missing assignments are completed and turned into their teachers. We want each of our Lions to finish strong!
I hope everyone has registered for our Black and Gold and will be joining us virtually on Saturday, March 13th at 7:00 pm. Kelly Richard and our Development Committee have been working hard on what will be a wonderful celebration of A Year Like No Other, honoring our faculty and staff and celebrating our successes this year. You can find more information about Black and Gold on our website, including a preview of the auction items, many of which have been created by our Lions! Auction items will be updated so keep coming back. A few items of note:
- Upgrade to the VIP package containing a signature cocktail and 2 glasses, delivered to your home to enjoy throughout the evening
- Purchase tickets for the Grand Opportunity or a year’s tuition
- Out of Uniform Passes for your Lions
I would like to thank our Marketing Committee for all of their work on our updated marketing materials and for assisting with our new application process. We are working diligently processing inquiries, applications, and enrolling new students across all grades. Several of our grades are full, and we do anticipate waiting lists on multiple levels. If you know of a family who is interested in St. Giles, please have them visit our Admissions page on the website. Did you know that we offer a New Family Referral at St. Giles School? Bring in a new family who enrolls and attends the 2021-2022 school year and you will receive a $500 tuition credit. Even better? The first 20 new families who enroll a kindergartner for next year will receive a $500 discount. Talk about a win-win. Check out and see our new format for applications and share with a friend.
Stay warm and well,
Meg
Spring Athletics Update
Recently the Archdiocese Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) worked closely with the Archdiocesan COVID-19 Task Force and carefully studied guidance developed by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Illinois Elementary Sports Association (IESA), and the Illinois High School Sports Association (IHSA) in regards to safely potentially bringing back spring athletics. The athletic guidelines are in addition to the COVID-19 Framework that we have been following all year with wellness checks, masking, hand sanitizing, distancing, and keeping our students in their cohorts/homerooms at all times throughout the school day.
When reviewing the guidelines with leaders at our neighboring Catholic schools, the most important guideline in regards to safety reads, “Team assignments, practices and competitions should be designed to maintain grade level cohort structures at all times possible. Mixing of cohorts should be avoided.” This means that we would not be able to have students from different Prides together on the field or court.
Based on this restriction and others, at this time we will not be having organized spring sports in the 2020-2021 school year. We take great pride in our adherence to science-based recommendations from the Archdiocesan COVID Task Force and strive every day to ensure the safety of our students. This must be our first priority. While we are very disappointed to not be able to offer interleague sports this year, we know that it is in the best interest for the continued safety of our students and larger community. As the weather improves, we will evaluate the ability to have after-school activities for individual Prides.
Archdiocese Travel Guidance Update
The Archdiocese provided updated information regarding quarantine restrictions due to travel in last week’s Parent Newsletter. If you are traveling to either an orange or red state at any time, especially during Easter Break, a 10 day quarantine is required, regardless of a negative COVID test. The city of Chicago and Cook County update the travel restrictions weekly. Please check this website for a current travel map. Close exposure quarantines remain at 14 days.
