Upcoming Service

Soul Care

Rev. Jaimie Dingus

10:45 AM, Sunday, June 29, 2023

Over 20% of adults and 10% of children in the United States live with some type of Mental Health condition. Yet we, as a culture and a community still struggle to understand and support each other’s mental health needs. Let’s become more mental health literate. Let’s learn how to care for our minds as well as our bodies. Let’s be intentional so as not to harm one another. Let’s practice soul care!

This Sunday Events Following Service

Our First Sunday of the Month Potluck celebrates the Fourth of July

Fellowship Hall

This Sunday, July 2nd, the Hospitality Committee invites everyone to join us in the Fellowship Hall shortly after the service for a Potluck Lunch. We’ll be celebrating the Fourth of July, and we welcome some good old American food. Drinks will be provided.

When you arrive at the church, please bring your food to the Fellowship Hall, and fill out one of the cards provided with the name of your dish and the ingredients. Place food directly on the serving table if it is ok at room temperature. For dishes that need to be kept cold, we’ll help you find a place in the refrigerator, and we’ll have warm ovens for food that needs to be kept warm. We ask that your food be ready to serve since we don’t have time to prepare or cook food before the service. Our monthly Potlucks are a wonderful chance to share food and conversation.

Children and Youth Education News

Preschool-5th Grade & 6th-12th Grade

The year may be halfway over, but at UUCH we find ourselves at the beginning of a new church year! That being said, I would like to glance back at the last couple of months and everything we have done in CYRE.

April might have been a little sleepy, but May and June were chock-full of activities and new adventures. In the middle of May, we had some of our family and youth from CYRE attend the “Liberate not Legislate” Rally to show support and solidarity for our LGBTQIA Community. We then wrapped up the school year and the month of May with a CYRE party at Stars and Strikes. A robot delivered pizza to us, we had a rainbow cake, and thirty people showed up for bowling and arcade games! I feel like June was the biggest month of all and we had so many wonderful Pride events to attend and chances to represent UUCH. Here is the rundown:

  • We marched in the Rocket City Pride Parade
  • Three of our youth attended the Inclusive Pride Prom
  • We planted a variety of Pride flags in front of UUCH
  • A group of us loaded an impossible number of books into a van headed to KY for donations
  • A small Garden Club has sprouted with the help of LaDawn Edwards
  • We distributed M&Ms with our UUCH business cards at the Rocket City Trans Pride Fair

We have so much to look forward to this year, and I can’t wait to see what the Universe brings to us! For the next two months we will be taking a break from our Soul Matters Curriculum. As we attempt to rejuvenate and reset during the summer, CYRE is going to be focusing on Soul Care. It is a tricky a world out there and we want to help our children and youth learn and navigate different methods to take care of themselves in all dimensions: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Since having taken this role back in April, I have had such a tremendous outpouring of warm welcomes, advice, and a lot of help. I just wanted to take the time to thank UUCH members, staff, and volunteers because this work is not done alone and I have a humbling amount of gratitude for everything! I am so proud and fortunate to be a part of the CYRE program at UUCH!

Share the Plate with Kids to Love

During the third quarter of 2023, UUCH will be sharing our plate proceeds with Kids to Love. All plate proceeds received from the Thursday before the first Sunday through the Saturday after the first Sunday will be split with Love Huntsville. In July, this includes plate donations received from June 29th through July 8th.

The Kids to Love Foundation has grown to become a lot of things since it began in 2004 in founder and CEO Lee Marshall’s garage. Since then, Kids to Love has served hundreds of thousands of children living in foster care, putting clothes on their backs, getting Christmas presents under the tree and giving them scholarships for the next steps of their education.

Kids to Love also operates Davidson Farms, a foster home for girls, the Whitaker Cottage Community for girls aging out of foster care, and their own licensed Child Placing Agency. It is also home to KTECH, a private school that offers job training in manufacturing, robotics, and more to young adults and people looking to make a career change.

Please consider giving generously to this important program during the first week of the month.

Safety and security review - A new way to serve

UUCH is putting more smarts and heart into our safety and security policies and procedures. Given general threats which have risen to the public sphere, there is a great opportunity to evaluate our current posture and make recommendations consistent with our values and principles for the purpose of effective community protection. If you are interested in supporting this effort, please connect with Board Trustee Shalin Mody.

July 4th Office Hours
