NEED WASHING?
He called a little child to him and placed the child among them. And he said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:2-3

A beautiful, red haired, freckle faced girl ,with the image of innocence, had been shopping with her Mom in Walmart. It was pouring outside, the kind of rain that gushes over the gutters with no time to flow down the spout. Customers leaving the store stood huddled in the doorway, some patiently, some irritated.  Rainfall can mesmerize. It can cause you to get lost in the sight and sound of the heavens washing away the dust and dirt of the world. It can bring back memories of children running, splashing so carefree, enjoying life to its fullest.

Suddenly her small, sweet voice said, “Mom, let’s run through the rain!
“What?”, Mom asked. “Let’s run through the rain!”, she repeated.
“No honey. We’ll wait until it slows down a bit.”, Mom replied.

The young child waited a minute and then asked again.
“We’ll get soaked, “Mom said.
“No we won’t. Mom. That’s not what you said this morning. Don’t you remember when you were talking to Daddy about his cancer? You said, ”If God can get us through this, He can get us through anything.”

The entire crowd at the door was silent waiting to see what she would say. This was a moment of affirmation in a child’s life.

“Honey, you’re right. If God lets us get wet, well maybe we just need washing!”

Then off they ran.  And they got soaked. But the amazing sight that followed surprised everyone. People followed them laughing and some screaming like children all the way to their cars! They too needed washing.
                                                                                                (paraphrased-Facebook)

Circumstances or people can take away your possessions, your money and your health. But they can’t take away your memories. God knows when we could all use a bit of washing.

Take the time to run through the rain.

Heavenly Father, help us to refresh our simple childlike faith, to put aside the distractions that pull us away from You, and through words and actions show others the depth of our faith. In Your name we pray. Amen.
