Dear Friends,

It has been our Congregation’s Annual Tradition to give a gift during the Christmas season to each member of our Church staff. As a reminder, we plan to give the gifts out by Monday, December 20st. If you wish to participate, please mail your check, attention Co-Lay Leaders, or feel free to hand it to either Chris or Hal after the Sunday service so that it is received no later than Wednesday, December 15th. Checks should be made out to Chatham United Methodist Church, with the memo line indicating Staff Christmas Gift, or, if you are familiar with our online donation service via Vanco, you may make a payment by going to our website at www.chathamumc.com, click on the “Make a Donation” button and follow the instructions. Please use the “Other-Miscellaneous” field to enter your payment amount.

Advent Small Groups Are Meeting

All Are Welcome – in Person or via Zoom

Groups are gathering weekly for one hour to share questions, reflections, observations, etc. around the week’s daily readings in the Advent devotional booklet, The Fullness of Time. Each day’s reading includes a Bible verse, a brief quote from Henri Nouwen, an encouraging reflection on Nouwen’s words by author, teacher and retreat leader Amy Ekeh, and a short prayer.

We have set up a reading table/library in the back of the sanctuary for children and their parents. Feel free to pick up a book, read it there, and or bring it home for bedtime stories! This month features books about Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

It's time for Sticky Buns for Christmas!!

The RISE 2022 team is now taking orders for their famous Sticky Buns made by the youth to help aid in funding of their summer mission trip to help repair homes in Appalachia.


The buns are sold for $15 per dozen - plain or pecan - and come frozen so that you can pop them in the oven on the day of your choosing and enjoy the wonderful aroma of freshly-baked sticky buns wafting through your home. 

Place your order this Sunday, Dec. 5 at the RISE table in Rodda Hall following the 10AM service.

You can also beat the line and email Jesse your order now!

Simply email Jesse at jdicken@drew.edu Please specify quantity and if you would like pecan or plain.



Checks made out to CUMC with (RISE Sticky Bun in memo) can be sent to the church office or dropped off at the RISE table this Sunday.

Annual Staff Christmas Luncheon

The Chatham UMC staff and CMP Directors met this week for our annual Christmas lunch and grab bag gift exchange. Outdoor Advent Gathering at the Parsonage

4-5PM.

Followed by Christmas Caroling to house-bound friends.

Due to the pandemic, we’ll have our annual gathering outside on the back deck at the parsonage. We’ll have the fire pit burning while we enjoy warm beverages, conversation, singing and fellowship. Feel free to bring an appetizer to share. Dress warm!

At 5PM, those who are interested will receive the names and addresses of some folks who might appreciate a few people singing Christmas carols on their front lawn. We hope you can join us!

A Blue Christmas Service is a time to acknowledge the feelings that surrounds Christmas for some of us, a time to remember the reason for those feelings, and a time to offer those feelings to God. This service offers a haven for people who desire a special touch from God during the holidays, and promises to be a time of quiet reflection, candle lighting, readings, singing, and prayer. We invite you to join us this Christmas season for a time of comfort and rest.

The service will be held in the Sanctuary. Please join us, and bring a friend. Hosted by CUMC’s Congregational Care Ministry

All-ages, Intergenerational Event

Saturday, December 11, 4:30 - 6:30 pm

Rodda Hall

All are invited for an evening of decorating cookies! CUMC has been asked once again to provide 300 cookies for the inmates and staff at the Morris County Correctional Facility as part of the Chaplaincy’s Christmas Gift Collection. We will decorate plain, pre-baked, homemade cookies and package the cookies in Ziploc bags. It will be a wonderful time for all ages, and a great opportunity to bring a friend!

2022 Altar Flower Calendar

The 2022 Altar Flower Calendar will be available beginning this weekend on the bulletin board outside Jeff’s office. Starting in January, giving the gift of Altar Flowers will be $50. By donating flowers you help beautify the sanctuary for worship service and, if you choose, you may take the arrangement home with you after. Flowers not taken on Sunday are brought to our friends in need of cheer. Reserve your special Sunday by signing up on the bulletin board. This year our gifts will be benefit Our Promise. Our Promise is a day center for those facing homelessness in Morristown; it is under the umbrella of the Family Promise organization. The suggested list for White Gift donations will be provided in the coming weeks.

The Chatham Emergency Squad will be hosting their final blood drive of 2021 on Saturday, December 4th. The drive will take place at St. Patrick’s Church @ 45 Chatham Street, Chatham in the Parish Center Gym. Hours are 8:30am - 2:30pm. Appointments are encouraged and may be scheduled @ nybc.org/njdrives using the sponsor code 61961. Please consider donating.
