National Day of Prayer: Thursday, May 6

"Building Beloved Community."

Join the URC on May 6 for the local interfaith observance of the National Day of Prayer, set aside by Congress for the first Thursday of May. This year, our event will be in the evening, as we 'break fast' with the local Muslim community celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The guest speaker this year is Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors, Senior Pastor at 2nd Baptist Church, Evanston, and President of the Evanston NAACP. Rev. Nabor's talk will be:

"Building Beloved Community"

Where we were; where we are; where we are going

The City of Evanston, Illinois, has begun the first program of reparations in the country, and he has been a local leader in the efforts.

The event will be available live via Zoom, and will be streamed via Facebook. A limited number of in-person seats will be available at the Islamic Society of Michiana for an Iftar, or 'breaking fast', Celebration. The participation limits will be known close to the event, depending upon local Health Department restrictions, but we anticipate being allowed approximately 50 spaces in the socially distanced and open space of the ISM's Community Hall.

Those used to the URC events will note a 'flip' of the event this year; instead of starting early in the morning with a meal and then the talk, this year will end with the meal!

7:30 p.m.: Welcome and Opening Prayer

Greetings from local leaders

Honored Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Michael Nabors

~ 8:45 Closing Prayer and Maghrib Prayer, followed by Iftar

If you will be participating remotely, we invite you to follow along with the Iftar celebration by doing your own version at home; the Torch will provide a suggestion in the next issue.
