Ageing and Poverty in India
Over two decades of experience and knowledge of the plight of economically weaker older people in rural and urban areas has led the author to question whether the meager monthly pension received by the elderly is adequate for a sustainable life? The period 2020-2030 has been proclaimed the WHO Decade for Healthy Ageing, with the motto "Leave no one behind". However, is the Indian government doing enough to ensure that all cities and human settlements are accessible, safe, and resilient for our older population?

An insightful compendium for our think tank, which believes that anti-ageism policies are imperative and senior citizens deserve the respect and dignity to live free from unwanted discrimination.
International Pen Pal Program for Older Adults
In March 2021, New York Foundation for Senior Citizens (NYFSC) launched an innovative International Pen Pal Program. Warm and friendly letters, which include news and events in the daily lives of NYFSC older adults, are sent via email to those served by social service agencies, including Sheppey Matters on the Isle of Sheppey off the southeast coast of England, ECH in Adelaide, Australia and lvory Cares Medical Concierge in Nigeria. The correspondence helps older adults feel less alone and isolated.

To expand this newly launched International Pen Pal Program, NYFSC would very much like additional organizations to participate.

If you or your organization are interested, please contact Linda Hoffman, President & CEO of New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, the only the only non-profit, non-sectarian organization serving New York City’s older adults in all five boroughs, at [email protected] or by phone, text or WhatsApp at 917-554-5030. You can also visit www.nyfsc.org.
Prediabetes and Vision: The Connection
The association between prediabetes or borderline diabetes and vision is little known and yet critical. As an intermediate state that may lead to diabetes, with the global prevalence expected to rise to 8.3% of the population by 2045, prediabetes is public health concern that can no longer be ignored.
