Students that selected tutorial times this week will receive an email from Ms. Campbell this weekend confirming the day, time, teacher, and room number for their tutorial session.

College Center Updates

Senior Financial Aid Informational Meeting
Click here to view the Financial Aid Meeting that the College Center hosted. The meeting shares a lot of important information that is timely for Senior families. Check it out! #ClassOf2022

Test Prep
We advise students to use Khan Academy. This is an online, self-paced, and guided tool that many students find beneficial. Here in the College Center, we enjoy Khan for 3 reasons:
1. IT’S FREE- As students in HISD, they have access for no cost!
2. It’s from College Board- College Board is the creator of both Khan Academy and the SAT, so, they are providing you a FREE study guide to their test!
3. It’s personalized- Khan Academy uses your previous SAT (or PSAT) score to analyze the areas of weakness that the student needs the most help in and then provides them with guided practice.
In addition to all of these great resources, there are full-length SAT practice tests. For more information, please visit khanacademy.org
Junior Meeting
On March 9th, we will have our Spring 11th-grade meeting in the auditorium. This is going to be an important event that will launch the college application process. We will talk more about testing, research, essays, applying, and financial aid for the 2022-2023 application process. There will be a chance for 11th-grade students to talk with current seniors about their experience. Please make sure you are present that day, actively engaged, and that you come ready to take notes.
School Day SAT
Your first OFFICIAL SAT TEST will be given to you at NO COST by HISD on Wednesday, March 2nd. Please do the research about the scores you need for the colleges you are interested in potentially attending. If you do well on this test, you may not have to retest throughout the summer and into your senior year.
Scholarship
Now is an excellent time to start looking ahead to scholarships. The College Center has a one-stop scholarship listing called CASH4CARDS that is constantly updated with new scholarships. While most are for seniors, I challenge you to dig deep and see what opportunities are available to underclassmen, as well. Check Cash4Cards for more information.
Class of 2022 Graduation
Hot off the press - The Class of 2022 will graduate June 12th at 7:00 pm at NRG stadium. A common question is whether there will be a limit on the number of tickets per graduate. Historically this has not been an issue when graduating at NRG stadium, and we haven't heard any mention of a cap for this year. Invite everyone!
Study Abroad Scholarships
CIEE has extended the deadline for study abroad scholarships to February 14. Students in grades 9, 10, and 11 are eligible for up to a full scholarship to spend the summer in the following countries:

Mexico, Argentina, Spain, France, Italy, Morocco, Germany, and Japan

Check out the programs and begin an application here (https://www.ciee.org/go-abroad/high-school-study-abroad/summer), and email Ms. Chapman at [email protected] for help!

Vaccine Records Can be Uploaded
Student COVID-19 Vaccine records can be uploaded here. You can upload a picture file or a pdf. Uploading your vaccine records helps Nurse Thomas update records and have access to vaccine information in a timely manner.

A huge shout out here to Nurse Thomas and Ms. Alfaro Miranda. They always work hard, but they are truly going above and beyond to try and meet the needs of our school community and help keep us all healthy.
COVID-19 Notification Changes
We wanted to update you regarding the manner in which we will share notifications with families and the larger community. We will continue to follow the protocols shared in the Houston ISD Ready, Set, Go plan when a student is in close contact with a confirmed and/or presumed positive case. However, the district has shared that we should no longer share the general announcement with the entire school community, and instead only communicate with those directly impacted. The Houston ISD COVID-19 Dashboard remains updated on a regular basis and can be accessed at this link.
Remind Messaging App
All parents and students are encouraged to join their BHS Class Remind Group. Remind is a communication tool that will deliver important communications through text message or email. You can download Remind for IOS here and Android here. Once you download the app, simply text the class code you belong to above to the number 81010.

Remind can also be accessed by clicking on the links below to join a group.

In addition to the class codes above, students will have the opportunity to receive communication and correspond with their teachers through the Remind App.
