Attend a live music concert in our community room and experience "fresh & refined folk music for modern times" with Massachusetts singer-songwriters Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards.
Mark Mandeville & Raianne Richards are a married musical couple based out of Webster, Massachusetts. These prolific and hard working Massachusetts-based artists have contributed over seventeen albums within their first decade and toured consistently throughout the US and Canada. Their songs poetically reflect personal experiences as factory workers, teachers, community organizers, and natives of post-industrial mill towns in central Massachusetts. The memories of days gone by and toils of history can be better remembered through songs such as “That Old Machine” or “Winds of Change.” Listeners feel refreshed lyrics with references to elements in nature. ZOOM: Lethal Tides with
Catherine Musemeche
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 23
2:30—4:00 PM
Hidden Figures meets The Imitation Game in this phenomenal true story of the virtually unknown Mary Sears. Known as “the first oceanographer of the Navy,” her groundbreaking oceanographic research helped lead the U.S. to victory in the Pacific theater during World War II.
When World War II began, the U.S. Navy was unprepared to enact its island-hopping strategy to reach Japan. Anticipating tides, planning for coral reefs, and preparing for enemy fire was new ground for them, and with lives at stake it was ground that had to be covered quickly. They turned to Mary Sears, an oceanographer with continuously overlooked untapped talent who, along with a team of colorful and quirky marine scientists, became instrumental in turning the tide of the war in the United States’ favor.
The Sears team dove in and analyzed ocean currents, made wave and tide predictions, identified zones of bioluminescence, mapped deep-water levels where submarines could hide, and gathered information about the topography and surf conditions surrounding the Pacific islands and Japan – all which proved critical to the U.S. Navy in avoiding catastrophe and ultimately cleared a path to Okinawa, the last major battle of World War II.
Weaving together science, biography, and military history Lethal Tides is the gripping story of an unsung woman who had a dramatic effect on the U.S. Navy’s success against Japan in WWII, creating an intelligence-gathering juggernaut based on the new science of oceanography.
About the Author: Catherine “Kate” Musemeche is a graduate of the University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston, Texas and the University of Texas School of Law. She has been a pediatric surgeon for more than three decades. Musemeche’s first book, Small, was longlisted for the E.O. Wilson/Pen American Literary Science Award and was awarded the Texas Writer’s League Discovery Prize for Nonfiction in 2015. Her second book, Hurt, was named one of the top ten EMS books of the decade. She has also contributed to the New York Times’ “Motherlode” blog, KevinMD.com, Creative Nonfiction magazine and EMS World. She lives in Austin, Texas.

Tweens & Teens Cooking Program
Thursdays
Oct 6, 13, 20, & 27
4:30PM-5:30PM EST
ZOOM
Hey Tweens & Teens! Do you enjoy good food? Like to cook?
Join us as the Lunenburg Public Library hosts cooking classes with Brittany Wujek, RD LD, a Registered Dietitian with Hannaford's Supermarket! Classes will be held virtually each week at 4:30PM-5:30PM EST on Thursdays from Oct 6th to Oct 27th so you'll be able to join us from your own kitchen. Each week has it's own registration, you can sign up for one, a couple, or all of them!
Brittany will walk us through how to prepare delicious and healthy festive Fall dishes for your family! Weekly recipes and lists of needed ingredients will be supplied by the library so that you will be prepared to fully participate in each class. You'll receive an email from Teen Librarian Susan once kits are ready to be picked up!
This program is open to Grades 4-8 (ages 10-14). Registration is required as space is limited (registration is by household, not by number of people participating!).
We recommend that there is adult supervision for this cooking class as students will be using various kitchen tools and a stove. The good news? The goal for the class is to prepare a dish for that night's dinner!
Note: This is an online event via Zoom. An invite will be sent out at least one hour before the program to the email given at registration.

Teen Mystery Night: The Haunted Halloween Heist
Friday, October 21st
6:45-8:15pm
Join us for an after-hours haunted Halloween heist as the library
is transformed into Gloomstone Glade!
The Shufflemore Woods are the haunted home of numerous monsters, ghouls, goblins, and other things that go bump in the night. Every Halloween, the dark denizens of the forest gather at Gloomstone Glade in the center of Shufflemore Woods to hold a fantastic Halloween festival, complete with song, dance, eerie decorations and - best of all - a great piñata, filled with candy!
But this year, something has gone terribly wrong! Last night, while most everyone was planning the party, Gloomstone Glade was vandalized! The gravestones were dragged away, the pumpkins disappeared, the Gloomstone Guardians went missing, the bats and spiders have fled and, worst of all, the candy-filled piñata is gone! All that remains are
some scattered pieces of candy.
It will take all the monsters, ghouls, and goblins in the forest working together to search for clues to piece together what happened last night and save the party! Can you help figure out who vandalized Gloomstone Glade and stole the piñata?
Open to teens in grades 6-12 (age 11-18). Registration required. Costumes are encouraged.
