A Note from Headmaster Philabaum
Greetings families,
Thank you for your input and sharing your interest in participating in seminars together as a parent community. We are initially setting up a few sessions, but more will be added throughout the semester.
First, we will be holding a single seminar on Dorothy Sayers’ influential text, “The Lost Tools of Learning.” It is an essay written in 1947 that has served as an inspiration for the re-emergence of classical education in America. More specifically, she discusses the importance of retrieving the classical Trivium, which is the reason for our very namesake today. It will be held on Tuesday, February 16 from 5:30 to 7:00pm.
Second, we will be holding a three-part series on the American classic, The Great Gatsby. Our faculty is reading this together this semester and it has been a very fruitful and engaging discussion! This is the same edition our 9th graders read at our preparatory schools as well. We will be holding this on the last Thursday of the month, from 5:30 to 7:00pm, during the months of February, March, and April.
Please look out for some more invitation on single seminars and an deep dive into the classic children’s literature your scholars read. We will make sure no future times conflict with these times, so feel free to sign up for as many as you’d like!
Thank you for joining us in this shared pursuit of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty together.
With Devotion,
Stephen Philabaum
Headmaster
