Chair Exercise with Joan

Do you have some physical restrictions that make it difficult to exercise? Take this free chair exercise class for some chair strength training! Joan Coker leads this class, which starts with a warm-up then proceeds through a variety of seated and stationary standing exercises (using the chair for support if needed) that are designed to strengthen every muscle in your body! Zentangle: Whimsical Houses

Discover the beauty of Zentangle through elegant line drawing, taught using repetitive patterns one stroke at a time. The course starts creating an abstract piece of mini art in traditional Zentangle method, mindful and relaxing, where the focus is placed on the beauty of the journey. The completed art is just the destination but is the unexpected prize. From there we turn on the fun to explore whimsical houses; the wonkier the houses the better! Intro to Loving Kindness Meditation

In this workshop participants will be guided through the Loving Kindness meditation also called Metta Meditation. Older Americans Month Quilt
Please stop by any of the 7 county Senior Activity Centers to pick up your Remotely Creative arts & craft kits.

These projects are free to Senior Activity Center members and individuals aged 55+.

Projects are available to be picked up on Tuesdays or Thursdays between 9:00 AM and 12:00 noon.

Inside the project bag are the supplies needed for this project as well as instructions.

Virtual Senior Center Plus
Virtual Senior Center Plus is an engaging program for seniors with memory and or functioning challenges that may require assistance.

The hour and a half program is comprised of brain stimulating games and activities; it also has an exercise segment to increase range of motion; and allows participants socialization through the virtual platform.

Requirements include being 55 years or older, registering for the program, access to a Zoom capable device, and caregiver to assist the participant with the device.

The Virtual Experience
This workshop is a high impact, dementia simulation experience that immerses participants into life with dementia, resulting in a deeper understanding of what it is like to live with cognitive impairment and sensory change.

Making Health Care decisions Before a Crisis: What Are They and Why Do They Matter?

Planning for future health care is not just about old age. At any age, a medical crisis could leave you too ill to make your own healthcare decisions. Even if you are not sick now, planning for health care in the future is an important step toward making sure you get the medical care you would want, if you are unable to speak for yourself and doctors and family members are making the decisions for you. This presentation will help you understand the types of decisions that may need to be made and how to share your wishes with others. Presented by Jessica Whittemore, LCSW-C from Hospice of the Chesapeake.

Evidence Based Programs
Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTC) is an evidence-based educational program that provides family caregivers with tools to increase self-care, confidence, and resilience.

Participants learn:
  •  strategies for stress reduction
  •  to communicate more effectively
  •  how to navigate family dynamics while making tough decisions
  •  how to build confidence in decision making
  •  effective problem-solving skills
  •  how to connect with helpful resources


PTC classes have shown to positively impact caregiver health in the following area: 

• Significant increase in behaviors: exercise, use of relaxation techniques and self-care
• Improved emotions, including reduced anger, guilt, and depression
• Increased self-confidence in coping with caregiving demands 
• Increased use of community services

This is a FREE 6-week ZOOM workshop designed for people who have been diagnosed with prediabetes, Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes, and/or their caregivers. 

VIRTUAL classes meet 2 1/2 hours weekly. Each session builds on the last to help you learn the self-management TOOLS of goal setting and creating action plans.

Come learn about:
  • The complications of diabetes
  • Managing blood sugar with healthy eating and exercise
  • Dealing with stress
  • Improving communication with health care providers

Fresh Food Friday
Fresh Food Friday occurs every Friday beginning around 2pm.

Location alternates every other week between our southern (Heritage complex in Annapolis 2666 Riva Road) and northern (Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie) locations.

This box of fresh produce in provided in partnership with the Anne Arundel County Food Bank.

This free box of produce is available to anyone over 60 years of age or older and anyone 18 years of age or older with a disability.

Due to the limited supply, 1 box per family and individuals must be present at pickup.
