Friendship Court Groundbreaking
Saturday, January 15, 2022 at 12 Noon
This groundbreaking is an extraordinary testament to the vision and perseverance of residents at Friendship Court. Over five years of engagement, planning, and design work has led to this moment. I am deeply honored to do our part in bringing the vision to reality.” – Sunshine Mathon
Executive Director
Piedmont Housing Alliance

Redevelopment plans include transforming the current 150 townhouse apartments into a 450-unit income-tiered community, replacing all existing units, and introducing new townhouse and multifamily units at different tiers of affordability including one-for-one replacement of current Section 8 apartments (Tier 1).
This pet-friendly development will also include a new Community Resource Center, a new early learning center, a central park, and a new community garden.
The redevelopment will take place in four, two-year phases and reflects Piedmont Housing Alliance’s mission to create affordable housing opportunities and foster community through education, lending, and equitable development.

We invite all to join us for this celebration ceremony (please RSVP). The program includes an opportunity to hear from members of the community, staff, elected officials, and those who have contributed to this momentous occasion.
If you cannot make it in person, we hope that you will watch the event live.
The Work Continues on our
Park Street Projects
Rezoning meetings have been held in recent weeks for both of our projects on Park Street - the conversion of the MACAA site into affordable housing, and the addition of 50 units of affordable housing to the Park Street Christian Church.
Year-End Retrospective on Development
Our work on Southwood, Premier Circle, and Friendship Court is featured in a

The Piedmont CLT homeownership program is open to individuals, families, seniors — any homebuyer who is income-qualified (see above) and wants to live in the greater Charlottesville area. When thinking about your eligibility, you should consider your income and employment, as well as your credit history and savings. These are the factors a lender will consider when you apply for a mortgage. We recognize that homebuyers may be at different stages of the homebuyer process.
