Note from School Leaders

Dear Rising Tide Students and Families,

One of our initiatives this year is to promote academic rigor and transparency through regular communication with students and their families of how the students are growing in their development of skills, content knowledge and understandings.

This afternoon we have released the first snapshot of current grades through the Community Portal, which is accessible to students and parents/guardians, for nearly all courses graded on an A-F scale. The small number of courses that are graded on an OSNU (Outstanding, Satisfactory, Needs Improvement, Unsatisfactory) scale, including Middle School Discover and Skills courses and Upper School Fitness, are not included in this grade update; Upper School Elective courses, which began later than the core classes, are also not included in this first release of current grades.

This information shared through this release of current grades is intended to be a snapshot of how students are doing in their courses, and we plan to share a release of current grades every two weeks leading up to sharing report cards each quarter. Please keep in mind that assignments and assessments will occur throughout the term for different courses and may be reflected in different bi-weekly updates depending on the course.

We hope that providing a release of current grades every two weeks will enable students and their families to have more clarity on their current performance as the term progresses. One of the core principles at Rising Tide is for students to take increasing responsibility for their learning through their middle and high school years. We hope that this year’s initiative to release current grades every two weeks will support students in taking responsibility for their learning and will enable parents and guardians to continue to join our faculty in supporting students to grow as learners. Parents/Guardians can also ask students to share feedback from specific assignments and also to review their Google Classrooms for their courses.

You can access the Community Portal to see this first release of current grades.

This week we are excited to celebrate Rising Tide's 25th Anniversary at the Gala this Thursday evening and the Student and Family Day on Saturday afternoon. We hope to see you at either, or both, of these events!

Have a wonderful week.

Sincerely,

Michael O'Keefe
