Greetings!
For accurate and current facts regarding the Rev. Herschell Harkins Memorial Pier (a.k.a., the Pacifica Municipal Pier), please see this For the Record link. Some incorrect information has been spread recently through various non-City channels, necessitating this clarification. In addition to the For the Record information, a press release about the reopening of a portion of the pier will be issued early next week.
In other announcements, please see the flyer about the upcoming #StopAsianHate peaceful march to be held in Pacifica on Saturday, April 3rd. Pacifica stands United Against Hate, and this event is an opportunity to lend your voice and actions to raise awareness about this important concern.
Finally, please check out and participate in Pacifica Beach Bites Bingo, presented by the Economic Development Committee and hosted by the Chamber of Commerce. This is meant to be a fun game that encourages support to local businesses!
Sincerely,
KEVIN WOODHOUSE
City Manager

Congresswoman Speier is inviting all elementary and middle school girls in her Congressional District to join her for her annual "When I Grow Up" event in celebration of Women's History Month on Saturday, March 27th at 10 a.m.
You will walk away filled with new dreams and confidence that you can be anything you want to be when you grow up. We have a rockstar lineup that will open your eyes to possibilities you may not ever have thought about. We will hear from an astronaut, a doctor and an executive at Zoom.

Nicole Aunapu Mann is a NASA astronaut scheduled to go to the International Space Station this year. She is currently training for the crew flight test of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. It is extremely rare for an astronaut in training to make public appearances, so you are in for an exceptional treat. She is one of three Bay Area-born astronauts who may become the first woman to walk on the moon.
Dr. Debra Houry is a director at the CDC, one of the government agencies that has become a household name during the Covid pandemic. She is the Director of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. In that role, she leads innovative research and science-based programs to prevent injuries and violence and to reduce their consequences.
Another name that has become part of every day pandemic life and distance learning is Zoom. We will hear from Aparna Bawa, Chief Operating Officer and Interim Chief Legal Officer at Zoom. Imagine the last year without technology. Video conferencing was one of the essential tools that kept us connected and allowed us to keep working remotely.

Let’s Talk Housing – Countywide Community Meeting on April 14th at 6:00 PM
Join us on April 14th for a countywide community meeting to introduce the Housing Element update process and take time to talk with other cities including Atherton, Daly City, Half Moon Bay, Woodside, and Unincorporated County. The meeting begins at 6:00 PM with an introduction about the Housing Element update process, then time to talk with your city or town.
The more people we hear from, the better our plans for the future of housing will reflect what is actually needed. Your voice—along with the voices of your neighbors, our workforce and our young people—are critical to ensure we have housing that meets all our needs. This is an introductory meeting, meant for everyone, including people who are learning about this planning process for the first time.
To join a separate meeting that will provide a more in-depth discussion about regional housing need allocations (RHNA) related to this Housing Element update, register for our Let’s Talk Housing: All About RHNA meeting on April 22nd. To Learn more about RHNA, visit our How This Works page.
About Let’s Talk Housing:
Let's Talk Housing is a collaborative effort of all the jurisdictions in San Mateo County focused on getting community feedback that will shape our Housing Elements – a housing plan that is part of every General Plan. Through an ongoing initiative called 21 Elements, we are working together to learn from and listen to the community about their housing needs, helping to make sure everyone is involved in shaping our shared future. Learn more about how you can join the conversation at letstalkhousing.org.

May 2021 – Bike to Wherever Days
While most of us continue to work from home because of the persistent COVID-19 pandemic, we will once again be biking to Wherever during the month of May, Bike Month. There’s plenty of reason to get out and ride your bike to run errands, get exercise, visit friends and family (safely of course) and more. This year, join us for the month of May and pedal to Wherever you need to go!
Friday May 21st has been designated as BIKE TO WHEREVER DAY 2021 with select special festivities when possible. San Mateo County will NOT be coordinating public face-to-face Energizer Stations again this year. San Mateo’s second annual Bike to Your Library day is being planned. Stay tuned for more information.
