Brayan Leon Goes Full Circle

CLICK HERE to hear his journey and what Mission Centers means to him

A few years ago Brayan Leon approached Area Missionary, Juan Ayala, during a Youth Club and asked if he could get a picture with him, to which Juan responded with a yes. When Juan asked him what the picture was for, Brayan told him he was working on a project involving mentors, and he saw Pastor Juan as a mentor of his. At this time, Brayan was an entering freshman in High School, and he had been part of Mission Centers of Houston for quite some time. He was in a group of young people that relocated to the Gano mission the Fletcher Mission Center was consolidated into it. Brayan recalled being nervous because of the change, but yet he remained connected to MCH.

Brayan has been one of the most faithful youths that is involved with the Gano youth. During his time at MCH, he attended our after-school youth program which included being mentored and discipled with the word of God. Brayan has also volunteered by serving at Gano on his days away from school. In summer he's been part of the Gano Street Mission Crew, a missionary internship program designed for middle and high schoolers willing to serve their community in all ministries that MCH offers. This summer will be his third summer serving with the Gano Street Mission Crew.

This May, Brayan became the first youth to graduate from High School while being connected with Mission Centers of Houston. Brayan is also a recipient of the 2023 Mission Centers of Houston college scholarship and is planning now attending the University of Houston. This is what Brayan had to say about MCH: “Good Day, thank you so much! I'm grateful for everything y'all have done for me to push me towards this success. Everyone there has truly had an amazing impact on my life, and I look forward to continuing to be around everyone and working hard for the future.” We are so proud of Brayan and are extremely grateful to God for what He's done in Brayan's life.

Ministry Spotlights

Empowered By Faith

Gano Mission Center has a women's bible study group called, "Women With Purpose (WWP)". Some of these ladies have been touched through the Word of God to answer a call to serve at the Gano Senior's weekly gathering. We want to commend them and thank them for a job well done. You can note their desire and love in the pictures. Keep them in your prays, so that we can continue to impact their lives for His Kingdom.

Building Bridges of Compassion

This month, The Compassion Center partnered with Arabic Baptist Church by supplying them with goods and resources for their refugee fair that they hosted on September 30th. At the fair, their church supplied over 100 people with socks, cleaning supplies, and other resources.

Pastor's Message Ignites Community with God's Word

This month, Joy Mission Center began a special day of worship each week with our senior adults. We enjoy sweet fellowship, sing songs of praise, share testimonies, and pray for one another. Pastor Noe Ortiz has faithfully preached God's Word each week. Joy's Community Ministry Assistant, Monse Rivas, and MCH's longest standing volunteer, Berta Torres, have made the time special with fun games to get to know one another. Each participant has been gifted a new Bible of their own, and we all participate in reading scripture as a group. These brothers and sisters in the Lord are pushing back the darkness and shining God's light in Magnolia Park!

Volunteer Highlight: The Compassion Center Network Churches

Uniting Hearts, Transforming Lives

As The Compassion Center (TCC) has gotten started, we are so grateful to Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist for allowing us to use their gymnasium as a temporary warehouse space. Over the past year, TCC has acquired nearly a half million dollars’ worth of donated goods in kind that have been stored at Pleasant Grove, but this fall, we needed to move those goods from the gym to the Joy Center. This was going to be a monumental task for the MCH staff.

On September 23rd, TCC network churches stepped up in a big way to help us with the move. 7 churches brought 30 volunteers to move most of the warehouse contents from Pleasant Grove to Joy in about 3 hours. There is no way this could have happened without these churches giving 100 hours of collective volunteer hours. Thank you! As we get settled into our new space, if you would like to help with organizing the warehouse, please email David Cripps (david@missioncenters.org)

Donor Shout-Out!

Building A Foundation of Faith

We are delighted to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Oldham Little Church Foundation for a generous offering to help us renovate the Joy Center space to convert it into a warehouse space. We would also like to thank Hope Legacy Collective for their generous donation for the purchase of a pallet stacker. This invaluable contribution will greatly enhance our ability to efficiently manage and transport supplies, stack pallets and use our space efficiently. This will enable us to better serve those in need within our community. Through their unwavering support, Oldham Little Church Foundation and Hope Legacy Collective exemplify the spirit of compassion and selflessness, embodying the Christian values we hold dear.
