Upcoming Infrastructure Projects
Our Public Services Department is working hard to bring a number of greatly-needed projects to fruition. Following two years of financial uncertainly caused by the COVID pandemic, we are excited to move forward with important roadway and drainage projects that will improve the qualify of life for our residents. Mayor & Council have prioritized these projects and have approved funding in this year's budget.

Sub-Basin 61: Drainage Project
Every year, Palmetto Bay embarks on a new drainage project in an effort to mitigate flooding issues throughout the Village, and also improve the surface water management system. To that extent, the Village has adopted a Stormwater Master Plan which lists the priority areas to address flooding conditions. The next scheduled drainage project for 2022 is Sub-basin 61. Below is the project information, including the scope of work, anticipated duration and project cost.

Scope of Work: The Village has contracted the services of Hartec Construction to install catch basins, manholes, storm sewers, and french drains. The system will connect to existing outfall structures/pipes that discharge to the South Florida Water Management District Cutler Drain Canal (A).

Project Location: Right-of-way south of SW 155th Terrace, north of SW 160th Street, west of SW 77th Court, and east of SW 79th Avenue.

Estimated Duration: The project is anticipated to start on May - June and will take between 8 - 12 months to complete.

Project Cost: $ 718,160

Besides sub-basin 61, Palmetto Bay's Mayor and Council also approved the design of drainage sub-basins 41, 43, 44, and 11, following the prioritization schedule identified on the adopted Stormwater Master Plan. The relative costs of the sub-basin design work is part of the Village's American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) federal funding. More information about these projects will be provided as they are implemented.

Village-wide Roadway Resurfacing
Palmetto Bay recently contracted the services of General Asphalt Co. to complete 10 locations throughout the Village.

Project Scope: The project scope includes the milling and asphalt resurfacing of certain village-owned roads as indicated on the location maps linked below.

Project Locations:

  1. East Hibiscus Street from S. Dixie Highway to Franjo Road
  2. Hope Avenue from SW 183 Street to Wayne Avenue
  3. SW 74 Avenue from SW 162 Street to the Cul de Sac (North)
  4. SW 94 Avenue from SW 170 Street to SW 168 Street
  5. SW 94 Court from SW 170 Street to SW 168 Street
  6. SW 137 Street between SW 73 Avenue and SW 72 Avenue
  7. SW 163 Street between SW 77 Avenue and SW 74 Avenue
  8. SW 165 Street from SW 93 Avenue to SW 92 Avenue
  9. SW 169 Street between Us 1 and SW 92 Court
  10. SW 170 Lane from 94 Avenue to the Cul-de-Sac

174th Street Complete Street Design
Palmetto Bay recently hired HSQ Group, Inc. to complete the conceptual design for the SW 174th Street Complete Street Project. Complete street designs consider all user modes when planning and designing a roadway, including walkers, cyclists, public transit riders, private vehicle drivers, and service delivery operators.

The Village has issued the notice to proceed (NTP) to the consultant to develop the conceptual design. The following steps are to develop the subsequent design and permitting of the complete street improvements.

Project Scope: This project looks to add drainage, on street parking, milling and resurfacing, and new pavement markings along SW 174th Street.

Project Location: SW 174th Street from East of US1 to West of 94th Avenue.

Estimated Duration: Design and permitting is expected to take about 4-6 months. Concept is for VPB to approve. Actual design plans need to go to Miami-Dade County.

Project Cost: $ 19,500
Village-wide Sidewalk Repairs
The Palmetto Bay Mayor & Council recently approved legislation to fund sidewalk repairs throughout the Village. Repair work has already started at various locations throughout the Village. The priority areas in need of repairs are identified by the Public Services Department based on the department's assessment of current conditions.

Project Scope: Palmetto Bay has contracted the services of Metro Express to complete sidewalk replacement or reconstruction at numerous locations Village-wide.

Project Locations: Village-wide on VPB maintained sidewalks or R/W

Estimated Project Duration: This project is currently underway with an anticipated completion date of June 2022.

Project Cost: $125,000 for current contract; $170,000 budgeted for the current fiscal year.
In addition to the projects listed above, the Village Council also recently approved a Village-wide traffic study for the purpose of - TABLES

Finally, Palmetto Bay continues to work collaboratively with Miami-Dade County to bring to fruition the Old Cutler Road Intersection Improvements project , which is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion. This project involves the construction of four traffic circles along Old Cutler Road and SW 136th Street, SW 67th Avenue, SW 152nd Street, and SW 184th Street. the project is currently in the design phase and construction is anticipated to start in late Summer.

Palmetto Bay has also worked closely with Miami-Dade County on the SW 136th Street Shared Use Path project. The newly repaved road and new path are scheduled for completion this month.
