Collective Impact Newsletter: First Edition!
Dear Creative Community,
Welcome to the first edition of the DC Collaborative's Collective Impact Newsletter. This newsletter is intended for those who are interested in the District's arts and humanities education Collective Impact initiative, Any Given Child DC! Current participants can also use this as a resource to hear what other committees are working on, view meeting notes, and keep on top of future meeting dates.

The DC "Collab" is all about Collaboration!
Together we help and inspire children. Together we know that all children, regardless of their socio-economic status or race, need and deserve arts and humanities in their lives. The only way to ensure equitable access to the arts and humanities for DC students is for all of us to collaborate.

It is with a "Collaborative spirit" that our Steering, Equity and Justice, and Assessment and Evaluation Committees provide the updates below.

What is Collective Impact?

Collective Impact is a framework for data-driven strategic planning. View the Collective Impact Resource Page on our website and one of the Collaborative's previous blog posts for more information.

The Goal

The Collaborative and broader DC arts and humanities education community implements this work through the committees of Any Given Child DC (AGC DC), part of the national Any Given Child initiative of the Kennedy Center. The goal of the national Any Given Child initiative is to create full access to and equity in arts education programs and resources for all students. DC Collaborative's Role in AGC DC: "Back-bone Support"
Collective Impact is driven by our entire arts and humanities education community. The Collaborative provides leadership and the support infrastructure to enable our community to work together to achieve its collective goals. The Collaborative Team is here to listen, guide, and help facilitate.

AGC DC Steering Committee Updates
AGC DC Steering Committee: Level-setting and Hitting the Refresh Button
AGC DC's Steering Committee, led by Lissa Rosenthal Yoffe (view bio) of DC Collaborative and Mary Lambert (view bio) of DCPS Arts, met in December 2020 and decided to focus its efforts on two key committees to ensure the DC community is providing relevant resources to our community of practice: the Equity/ Justice and Assessment/ Evaluation Committees.
This year, together we shall we strive to answer the questions:

  • What services were we providing pre-pandemic and to whom?
  • What services are we providing during the pandemic and to whom?
  • What do we need to provide as a community moving forward to ensure that our work is relevant and delivered through an equity lens?

Other DC Collaborative Update
Data Visualization Update
Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue our strategic planning through the DC Collaborative Collective Impact Data Project. The Collaborative is excited to start the year working with 7 focus groups for the SY17-18 data dashboards. With the abundant constructive and useful feedback we've received through our focus group convening, our SY19-20 data dashboards will be designed with framing and more purpose for the different stakeholders in our community.

The "Co-lab"
In the future, we envision that the DC Collaborative will be the go-to for arts and humanities education data in the District of Columbia. We will be taking steps (including applying for funding) as part of our commitment to AGC DC to create a "Co-lab" data hub that is accessible to DC Collaborative members (and the cultural community overall), schools, funders, and parents/caregivers. The Collaborative is in the unique position to identify these needs and facilitate the work due our past and current data work coupled with our leadership and position of service in the community, bridging cultural institutions/ individual teaching artists and school partners.

Collective Impact Resource
The National Endowment for the Arts has recently released a Collective Impact Logic Model, as well as an Arts Education Tool Kit in Collaboration with the Education Commission of the States as part of the State Data Infrastructure Project for Arts Education. Please view more about their case studies and other resources on the Education Commission of the States and the National Endowment for the Arts Website. These are terrific resources that we can use in our AGC DC collective impact work!
