The land trust accreditation program recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national quality standards for protecting important natural places and working lands forever. Colorado Headwaters Land Trust is pleased to announce it is applying for renewal of accreditation. A public comment period is now open.

The Land Trust Accreditation Commission, an independent program of the Land Trust Alliance, conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. CHLT values its accreditation status and believes strongly in the importance of accreditation to complete our work. We know that you believe in us, too, which is why we're asking for your help.

The Commission invites public input and accepts signed, written comments on pending applications. Comments must relate to how Colorado Headwaters Land Trust complies with national quality standards. These standards address the ethical and technical operation of a land trust. For the full list of standards see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/help-and-resources/indicator-practices.

To learn more about the accreditation program and to submit a comment, visit www.landtrustaccreditation.org, or email your comment to info@landtrustaccreditation.org.

To the advocates of CHLT:

I am humbled to accept being elected President of the Board of Directors of Colorado Headwaters Land Trust. As I can now see 2020 in the rearview mirror, I am grateful to be alive. On a world-wide scale, the pandemic is still terrifying and on a local level, the wildfires last summer and autumn are only barely a distant memory. We have learned valuable lessons about how to survive without concerts, dining with friends and not seeing loved ones. One constant for us in Grand County has been the ability to be outside enjoying nature. Looking forward to 2021, I believe that the perspective to take away is to get back to basics.

The land and trees cannot speak for themselves as we learned from Dr. Seuss. We need to educate ourselves and our neighbors to be stewards of the land we love. Living in Grand County where the natural character of the area is such an integral part of our existence, we can all do something to keep the balance of protection of the open lands and the inevitable development that is here and will continue into the future.

We look forward to continuing to conserve and steward the open lands and natural character of the headwaters of the Colorado River in partnership with our local community. We hope you will continue to support the efforts of Colorado Headwaters Land Trust.

- Paula Metcalf Stuart, CHLT President 2021-2022

It was a pleasure to serve Grand County's conservation community for the past seven years. Since 1995, CHLT's dedicated staff and board of directors has worked earnestly to fulfill CHLT's mission of protecting the land and water of Grand County, and will continue to do so!
- Cray Healy, CHLT President 2017-2018, 2020-2021
