September in the nursery

It's nearly autumn - welcome to prime planting season in San Jose! With limited rain and rising food and water prices, many are looking for ways to save water and cut costs while maximizing beauty and ecological wellness. Fortunately, San Jose offers a wealth of resources for those looking to conserve this precious resource.

In this newsletter, we've compiled some of the most helpful tools for transforming your landscape and saving time, money, and the earth: from favorite drought-tolerant plants, to San Jose rebate programs encouraging water conservation, to local events and trainings. We also have a new article from contributing writer Tina Martin on creating edible landscapes that do double duty as a low-cost food source and ornamental garden.

We are deeply grateful for you - thank you for being a CWN customer and helping to support our small business.

Wishing you an abundant September,

CWN: Behind the Scenes!

Resident nursery insects

Did you know we are a no-spray nursery? While we do not control for conditions at our growers, once plants arrive at our nursery, they are treated only with water, pruning shears, and love. We encourage a diversity of wildlife, from birds to pollinating insects to insects that help control pests.

By gardening without pesticides, we help to beautify the land, support the local ecosystem, and help the environment. You can also help by using organic, nontoxic fertilizers and organic pest control products such as Neem oil (available for a low price online) in your own gardens. To learn more about using insects in your garden as a natural form of pest control, click the link below to read 'Beneficial Insects: Nature's Pest Control' on GardenDesign.com.
