Pacific Institute Innovative Toilet Leak-Detection Program Expands to Phoenix, Arizona

This month, Pacific Institute Senior Researcher Cora Snyder played a pivotal role in launching the toilet leak-detection program in Phoenix, Arizona. She was joined by Mayor Kate Gallego of the City of Phoenix, Troy Hayes of Phoenix Water Services, KaLena Downton of Procter & Gamble, Nicholas Benz of Sensor Industries, and Sara Hoversten of Bonneville Environmental Foundation.


This event showcased the installation of cutting-edge leak detection sensors in an affordable housing community. The collaboration is one of many in partnership with the Pacific Institute.

Water Resilience Coalition Making Positive Impact in Brazil

Pacific Institute team members André Villaça Ramalho and Giuliana Chaves Moreira collaborated with colleagues from The Nature Conservancy, the Pacto Global da ONU no Brasil, and the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS). They participated in a field activity at the Jaguatibaia Association for Environmental Protection.

 

This hands-on experience allowed the team to witness the transformative impact of the Bacias & Florestas program in the city of Jaguatibaia. This project, one of many, driven in the PCJ Watersheds through the Water Resilience Coalition, aims to engage more local companies to amplify the impact of local actions through collective efforts.

A Nature Conservancy report suggests that Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) can tackle up to 37% of our climate targets. Yet, quantifying and maximizing the benefits of NBS remains elusive to many. 

 

Introducing Pacific Institute newly launched guide, "The Benefit Accounting of Nature-Based Solutions for Watersheds Guide." Co-developed with the CEO Water MandateThe Nature Conservancy, LimnoTech, and denkstatt, this guide serves as a comprehensive tool to understand, account for, and measure the multifaceted benefits of NBS.

APA Colorado hosts an annual conference in the fall of each year. This conference is the premier learning and networking event for planners in Colorado.

Pacific Institute to Host Science and the Salton Sea Webinar

On September 28, the Pacific Institute will host a distinguished panel of experts for a robust 90-minute conversation about the role of science in Salton Sea planning.


The State of California is working to improve conditions around the Salton Sea, with the goal of constructing 30,000 acres of projects to suppress dust from exposed lakebeds, create habitats for fish and birds, and develop a long-term plan for the Sea. This webinar will explore the role of science in the state’s Salton Sea restoration planning and management efforts.

Recap: Salton Sea Public Health Webinar

This month, Pacific Institute Senior Researcher Michael Cohen convened a distinguished panel of experts on lithium extraction in the Salton Sea region.


Participants gained an improved understanding of lithium extraction, including the importance of lithium for battery production, meeting California’s climate goals, the economic potential for the region, and the concerns of local residents about the proposed development.
