Dear Alumni,

I hope this finds you all well and enjoying the onset of fall.

We hope you enjoyed reading our first-ever TSA Report, which was emailed in August. This "Summer" issue was the first semi-annual report of the state of the school. We anticipate the second "Winter" report to be sent each year in January. These and our semi-annual alumni newsletters, The Phoenix, represent our new commitment to stay in touch with you, our alumni. Please let us know what you think of these messages.

We want you to feel a connection between the school you remember and the school we are and will continue to become. We hope you will consider engaging with current students (read on to learn about opportunities for that). We want to share our joy and our stories; we want you to tell us your stories; and we want you to return to campus to visit us!

Affectionately,
Alumni Joy
We love our Alumni visits

On May 18, 2022, Fred Tubula and his mother paid a visit to the high school to say hello to his advisor Brian Tonks and other faculty. Fred was an exchange student from Kenya in 2015-16, went on to graduate from Friends Select in Philadelphia, then from Gettysburg College this past spring.

Back to school
This year began joyously with new and returning students at Orientation face-to-face and mostly without masks. On Thursday, September 1, Mary Newman welcomed families at her first potluck since becoming Head of School. We were especially delighted that alumni are dropping in to visit like they used to!

Alumni made our Phirst Phoenix Phest Phun and Phabulous!
We so loved seeing our alumni return to campus on Saturday, June 4, to help TSA celebrate its 26th year with a whole new community-oriented day of fun, food, and friendship.

Students, alumni, parents, staff, and friends played games and reconnected. We look forward to making this an annual tradition!

Save the Dates
Back for Thanksgiving? Come see the High School's Musical Interim production of The Addams Family Friday, November 18, and Saturday, November 19.

We would especially love to see you at the Wine and Cheese event hosted by the Board of Directors. We'll be sending invitations in early November!
Share your experience
Career DayApril 7, 2023

There is nothing more inspiring or meaningful for a young adult to hear from those who have some common connection, like their alma mater. If you are free next April 7, please consider spending the morning at TSA sharing your post-high school experiences.

Share your knowledge
This year we have introduced "Block 3", which is a 90-minute class meeting 4 days a week. This is when the classes that used to be called “electives” will happen, as well as college and career seminars, and a Health curriculum.

As you may remember, electives are an opportunity for students to learn from a wider range of instructors, including community members, other students, and alumni.

Do you have an interest you'd be willing to share with students 1:102:40, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays for approximately 4 weeks during the school year? You could teach on your own, with another teacher, or recommend someone to teach.

If you're interested in learning more, please reach out to Christa Wurm!

Alumni teachers at TSA
We'd like to think it's a testament to the learning experience at TSA that some of our alumni want to come back as teachers. This year we count six TSA alumni among our faculty. Ben Gross '15, Ella Hayslett '11, and Margaret Gish '14 are at the Middle School. Spike Carter '04 and Grayson Levy '13 are at the High School. Lydia Wood '10 is the school counselor serving both campuses.

Do you have news to share? We'd love to hear from you and let others know!
Ella Hayslett '11
Ella has returned to TSA as the middle school Spanish teacher. Just prior, she worked with unaccompanied minors in a Texas border shelter as a horticulture therapist.

Being back in the TSA community as a teacher is one of the biggest surprises of my life so far, and also feels like one of the greatest gifts."
John Marshall '12
John Marshall '14 has been working on a documentary film this past year with a small but growing team.

"In high school, everyone thought I'd have a tough time choosing between engineering and the arts. I chose both." After a gap year, John attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC for musical theatre, and has been a professional actor, singer, and dancer since 2013. He and his wife Victoria have settled in NH where they work at North Country Center for the Arts. He has also worked as a fleet mechanic, races motorcycles, and has a '68 Dodge Power Wagon. "TSA helped me put deadlines on my dreams. I learned the structure and skills to focus on what I wanted to do and show it to the world. That kind of holistic education stays with you."
Rosemary Connelli '14
Rosemary Connelli TSA ’14 was recently profiled in Emerging Creatives of Science for her work as an artist in support of the education and awareness of conservancy, specifically for marine environments and cetaceans. Her business Connelli Designs includes the creation of artwork for sale to the public as well as projects with conservation groups and researchers to help communicate through visual language.

Andy Ruddell '14
After graduating from TSA, I stayed in Vermont and coached for a non-profit spring league soccer club while working on a vegetable farm. I now help run the club, Central Vermont Football Club, which has grown to 200+ players ages 719. In addition, I am going into my 4th year coaching the TSA varsity girls’ soccer team.
Support TSA
We have to ask...
TSA is about to launch our fall appeal. Now that we are entering our second quarter-century, we hope that our growing pool of alumni will consider supporting the school and its ongoing work to "awaken students to their immense potential and the difference they can make in the world..."

Our alumni have made gifts to TSA ranging from $1 to $5,000. Every gift at every level is important, but even more important is how many of you make the gesture. Please help us by including us in your charitable gift plan to keep TSA's mission alive!
