With their fresh ideas and unique perspectives, members of the World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council are instrumental in shaping World Ocean Day, working to grow its reach and impact in June and advocating for ocean and climate conservation throughout the year.

Applicants should be youth ages 16-23, who are already committed to protecting our blue planet, with a recognition of the connection between the ocean and climate.

  • Africa No Filter’s Kekere Storytellers Fund - Micro-grants for emerging storytellers who are already creating and publishing unique and compelling content that offers fresh and alternative perspectives of Africa, to show a continent that’s innovative, evolving, and creative. For youth under age 35. Applications accepted on a rolling basis.


  • Youth Ocean Action ToolkitCreated by youth and for youth, the toolkit contains a collection of stories and case studies of Marine Protected Areas around the world that illustrate the power of collaboration, education, and community action, from the Arctic to the South Pacific and beyond. Free downloadable resource.


  • Youth4Ocean EU Young Ocean Advocates - Showcase your project, participate and pitch your ideas in European events, connect with mentors, network with leading experts, participate in working groups along with stakeholders and decision-makers to address ocean challenges, and benefit from leadership resources to make a positive change. Ages 16-30. Open call throughout the year.


  • Virtual Commemoration: International Day of the World’s Indigenous People - Speakers will share their expertise and experience from their Indigenous Peoples’ communities in the role of Indigenous youth in exercising self-determination in the context of climate action and the green transition; mobilizing for justice; and intergenerational connections. 9 August, at 9am EST.


  • Earth Hacks Environmental Justice in Tech Zine - Call for submissions to zine publication showcasing a variety of art pieces, poetry, essays, and more exploring this theme through the lens of environmental justice. $200 honorarium. Submit by 15 August.


  • MISS Elasmo Shark Research Workshop - Learn various field research techniques and stay on a live-aboard research vessel. Participants will also complete a series of personal development conversations and community building activities. Travel stipend offered. Apply by 17 August at 12am EST.



  • Youth Solutions Micro-Grant - Supporting youth to start, replicate, or scale up their solutions to housing and urban challenges in the Asia-Pacific region. $2k USD seed funding. Ages 18-30. Apply by August 19.


  • Social Shifters Global Innovation Challenge 2023 - Supercharging the next generation of young leaders, innovators and entrepreneurs to tackle the social or environmental issues that matter to them most. Ages 18-30. Up to $10k USD prize. Apply by 20 August.


  • Ørsted Youth Panel - A forum that amplifies the voices of young changemakers and serves as a room for discussing their perspectives on how to deliver a rapid and just green energy transformation. Ages 18-24. Apply by 21 August.



  • EPA's National Environmental Youth Advisory Council - The first of its kind, the Council will provide a critical perspective on how the impacts of climate change and other environmental harms affect youth communities. For American youth ages 16-29. Apply by 22 August.


  • Climate Action Accelerator Program - A capacity building program where teams learn together while creating a strategic, hope-filled whole-school climate action plan. Apply by 24 August.



  • Local Conference of Youth USA - A youth-led climate conference endorsed by YOUNGO, this hybrid event brings the brightest youth climate minds, activists, and scientists together to develop proposals for strengthening US climate action. 35 years or younger. Apply by 25 August.  


  • Online Event: Turn your job into a climate career! - Co-presented by News Platform GRIST and Global Collaboration Platform Creatives for Climate, join to discuss the green jobs landscape and how professionals can creatively approach turning their job into a climate career. 30 August, 8-9am PDT.


  • Smithsonian Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships - The three fellowships, Climate Change, Environmental Justice, and Resilience & Sustainability Science, will participate in hybrid training related to leadership skill development, science communication, policy engagement, effective transdisciplinary research techniques, and inclusive approaches to research and equitable outcomes. Apply by 31 August.


  • The Climate Futures Prize - A fiction story contest that encourages young people to channel their creativity and imagination into liberated visions of the future. 25 years old or younger. Submit by 1 September.


  • Future Leaders Climate Summit - Open to any individual who has completed an undergraduate degree or who has three years of experience related to climate change or sustainability issues. Ages 22-30. Cost of travel, lodging, and meals covered. March 11-14, 2024 in Miami Beach. Apply by 5 September.


  • Virtual Island Summit - Join policymakers, entrepreneurs, academics and NGO leaders as they share their expertise on island communities and examples of good practices from around the world. Free to attend. 25 September - 1 October.
