This week's message:

"Everybody's  Doin’ It … Reflections on World Communion Sunday"

THE MID-WEEK BUZZ

Dear Community Church of Poway Friends and Family,

I hope you are having a great week. As usual, it is busy, busy, busy, here at the church office. I am so grateful for the staff we have and the roles that they embody. Sunday was a beautiful day of worship and fellowship. I was especially moved by your response to the message. Sometimes, I get a bit anxious when I am preaching a sermon that has a “pointed” emphasis on our personal lives and behaviors. I sensed that Sunday, the message was received as several asked about the acronym T.H.I.N.K.

T…is it TRUE

H…Is it HELPFUL

I … Is it INSPIRING

N … Is it NECESSARY

K … Is it Kind

It amazes me how our current situations in life, are mirrored in the words and stories of scripture. James really does “Have it goin on.” This coming Sunday, we will take another break from James as we celebrate World Communion Sunday. I encourage you to be in person this week as we will be doing things a bit differently. It is always a great day to be in-person when we celebrate this special meal.

Pastor Debbie, Andy, and I have been putting the finishing touches on this week, especially looking forward to the Blessing of the Animals on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. This is a perfect outreach project that doubles as church fellowship time. Please come and support your ministry boards and each other as we reach out to our Poway neighbors. Freddie and I will be there with all of our “kids.”

Until Sunday, remember, the God who gifted us with life wants nothing but the best for us. God has you wrapped in Divine love and grace. When we remember that, it seems the pressures of the world are a bit less stressful. I love being your pastor.

Holding you close and lifting you high!

Pastor Greg

A Message from Pastor Debbie

Happy Week to all,

I know it has been really hot outside, but isn’t each day still a blessing from God?!

Our pets are also special blessings from God. This Saturday, we will have a chance to bless our dear, sweet pets at church. Come on down from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm for a very special “Blessing of the Animals”. Your pet will receive a special gift, there will be treats for the humans and a raffle, and booths and tons of socializing. So come on down!

We also want you to “save the date” for October 30th from 3:00 to 5:00. We will have our “Trunk or Treat”. Get your thinking caps on about how you will decorate your trunk so you can give out treats to kids in our community!

Blessings,

Pastor Debbie

NEW SECTION!

Sunday, October 2nd is World Communion Sunday. As Pastor Greg and I began talking about the service there were two songs that immediately came to mind for me. The first is "In Christ There is No East or West" from the New Century Hymnal. The second was the praise chorus "Shout to the North."

Both of the pieces refer to the fact that Christ is open to all and that borders are created by humans and not by God. This Sunday reminds us to think about God's children all over the world. We all share in this communion on this particular Sunday, and these two pieces really remind me that God's world is for all of us.

The choir will also be singing "Let Us Break Bread Together" during communion as an invitation to all of us to share in this sacred meal. It is an act we choose to do based on Jesus' instruction. The words are simple and the invitation is great. There is truly a place at God's table for all, and that to me signifies the center of Christ's message.

EVERY THURSDAY AT 6PM

CONFIRM NOT CONFORM

Every Thursday starting at

6pm-7:30pm

One of the best things about our church is the diversity of experience and belief. We gather on Sundays, celebrating all God is doing, sometimes we get so caught up in our “Sunday experience,” that we forget that the call to discipleship is on our lives every day of the week.

Confirm-Not-Conform (CnC) is a program we will be using to ignite our passion for daily construction of who we are and what we hold dear. Folks have asked, “What exactly is CnC?” For lack of a better explanation, it is a confirmation

program for the entire church. CnC is designed for us each, to individually construct what it is we do believe, realizing that our beliefs can grow and change as we put our faith into practice.

Greetings From Outreach!

UPDATE!

My goodness! You all are amazing! Thank you thank you thank you, to all our church family and friends for your generosity and your help in making our ”Do Church” such an amazing success.

Together we created 160 sack lunches to feed God’s Children in need! And God’s timing is amazing. When we arrived at Interfaith Community Services on Sunday with the lunches, they had a sign on the door that said sorry we are out of sack lunches today.

With your generosity and help, they were able to pull the sign and start handing them out.

Thank you again for all you do for all our ministries. Big hugs and God’s blessings.
