Our Buddies Are a Priceless Treasure

It was an adventure more exciting than sailing on the seven seas when our First Grade and Fifth Grade Buddies joined together on "Talk Like a Pirate Day". Watching our older students work, laugh, and guide their younger buddies is definitely a prized tresure at St. Rose. Our Buddy Program is officially off to a happy beginning.

Dear St. Rose Community,

As you can imagine, there is a different liveliness and excitement of anticipation during those dismissal minutes at the end of the day. Waiting to be called, looking forward to what you're going to do when you leave, sharing a bit of chatter with your friends; and it's not only the teachers, the children feel that way too;) The children hurry out to buses and cars awaiting them, and there comes a point when there are just a few left; and sometimes that's when they like to chat the most about this and that; the things on their mind.

So Wednesday afternoon, when there was just one left, who happens to be new to our community; he started to talk about his favorite thing so far this week. It was one of those times when I had to do very little prompting; he just shared thought after thought and all I did was listen.

He really liked meeting and working with his buddy this week and said he was surprised how much they were alike. He went on to share that he liked being here very much; his classmates were really nice and he already made some friends. People are kind and helpful; and we do a lot of stuff in a day. He was excited about the things he had already learned and the different activities he worked on with his classmates and he liked that we used books and paper and pencils and did hands on activities. He had been at his former school since Kindergarten and there, he did a lot of his work on a computer and it actually wasn't too much fun. He said our school is bright and cheery, that our classroom and hallways made him happy because of all the colors and things in the rooms and on the walls. He likes going to all the different specials; he loves being able to pick a book from the classroom shelves and keep it at his desk to read. He went back to the different things we were learning and then, there it was, why we are here; "I really like when you teach religion, because I didn't have that at my other school and I like learning about Jesus and all the things we have learned so far," and in just those few minutes as we waited for dismissal, he had shared all those things; that might be the reason I hear him hum sometimes when he works, all those things that are right here in front of us and we experience each day.

God always leads us where we need to be at different times in our lives and I'm filled with joy when I see how many new SRS family members he has led to us over the years, especially this year. Sometimes when we are down in the trenches with lots of details and have been around for awhile, or we are hurrying through our days to get everything done; we forget to pause and see how truly blessed we are, even with some of the imperfections we might have and experience. I hope you too are uplifted by this story, that you can take the time to pause to see that we are greatly loved and greatly blessed at our school. With Christ in our hearts and minds, and beside us, leading us, we need to remember to be grateful for every day he gives us as a community; even on those really busy days, and those not so perfect ones.

We look forward to opening our doors and welcoming you to our Back to School Night. Our teachers are ready to have you visit the classrooms and see where your child learns and makes friends and talks about Jesus each day.

The year has begun with many blessings and plans for adventures to add to our St. Rose Story. We are grateful that we have this year, to work and journey together, for all of our St. Rose children.

Warmly,

Mrs. Mary Jo Bokuniewicz (Mrs. B)

Our Students Lead Dedicated to

Service and Leadership

Our middle schoolers have lead us into the new school year with excitement and dedication. They have been busy since the summertime helping to plan new spaces and update other spaces in the school for our students. We look forward to the new Student Center, and an update to the our library space. Student council elections are just around the corner; in the meantime, last year's officers who returned to our school are taking the lead in our school government. We are happy to hear their voices in the morning leading us in prayer and the pledge. Our scouts are tending to the raising and lowering of our flag; and our student ambassadors recently assisted Religious Education with their opening days by serving to welcome and help teachers, parents, and students find their way around the school. We are grateful for this partnership with Religious Education and we appreciate that they have given our students this opportunity to serve.

Thank you to Immaculate High School for hosting our Class of 2024 for Discovery Day.

Keeping Our Middle Schoolers Safe

We are grateful to Sergeant Chapman for visiting with our Middle School on Wednesday afternoon. After reminding our children that they are creative and intelligent, but are going to make mistakes; he also reminded them that they are loved and that was why he was there to talk about ways they can stay safe when it comes to using technology. He shared ways for our students to use Social Media responsibly; citing that what they do on Social Media exists forever and that they didn't want others judging them in 50 years for making a bad choice now. He presented them with the acronym "BLAST" when talking about how we are feeling at times and when we might reach for our phone and not make good choices.

He wrapped up his presentation with a quote and discussion of valuing and giving attention to the important people and places in our life, not getting distracted and giving more value to "things". I look forward to working with our student leaders to create PSAs and other creative communications to keep us reminded of the message from Sgt. Chapman.
