Middle and Upper School Families:
Don’t forget to register for spring conferences! Pick-a-Time closes on Tuesday, March 9, at midnight.
Reminder: Reenrollment and District Busing for 2021-2022

The Office of Admissions has begun the annual process of reenrollment! Reenrollment materials are available online through Net Community, and the deadline to reenroll is March 18. Due to high demand for available spaces, we are asking parents to please submit their child’s reenrollment by the deadline and to contact Admissions if there are circumstances that make it difficult to do so.

Please note that there has been a change to the process to request bus transportation from your public district. For families residing in districts other than Syracuse City, you must submit your bus request directly to your school district (MPH can only submit bus requests for families residing in Syracuse City). Requests must be submitted by April 1. Please visit the Transportation webpage for additional information.
Support for Our Students

Director of Student Life Pat Bentley-Hoke and School Counselor Joy Strickland are looking for ways in which they can support MPH students who are learning at home, full-time or part-time. With an understanding that learning from home has its own challenges, they would like to offer ways in which students can connect with others who are learning online to offer support to one another.

In order to gauge interest in attending these online groups, Pat and Joy are asking students to complete this survey. Please share with your child/ren if you think they may be interested in getting involved. These groups would provide connections with other students and could span a variety of topics and/or concerns.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Pat or Joy.

Sneak Peek! "Fiddler on the Roof"

The company of "Fiddler on the Roof" had their first recording session this weekend to prerecord all the vocals for the show, which will be performed at the end of the school year. Together with the Pandemic Response Team, the production crew collaborated with sound technician and MPH alumus Will Maresco '15 to create an exciting and innovative experience for the kids. Check it out by clicking on the video link on the left!
Attention Scientists!

Although we are unable to hold a STEM Fair this year, students are still able to participate in the virtual Central New York Science and Engineering Fair on March 21. Since the CNYSEF was canceled last year, this is an opportunity for students to submit projects completed in the spring of 2020. Details of the CNYSEF can be found here. Please note that the registration deadline for MPH students has been extended through March 11. Science Department Chair Ms. Foster is happy to assist students with CNYSEF registration. Projects are to be virtually submitted by March 14.
We are thrilled to introduce MPH Global! MPH Global masterclasses deliver a unique opportunity for students to perform a prepared solo in front of a live virtual audience and receive one-on-one coaching from our world-class performers! The performances and coaching will be followed by interactive conversations, including Q&A sessions with our guest-artist faculty for all participants.

The first in our series is a voice masterclass with MPH alumna and Broadway performer Carrie Manolakos on Monday, April 12, 6:30–7:45 p.m., for students in grades 9–12. Learn more here!
MPH Kindness Socks (and hats, gloves, and masks) the Pandemic!

Our core value of kindness was on full display at last Friday’s schoolwide COVID-19 testing day. Grateful to the Onondaga County Health Department for, once again, testing all of our students and employees, on site and free of charge, the MPH4MPH clubinvited our school community to “pay it forward” by bringing donations for the Samaritan Center to help keep our neighbors warm and safe. MPH delivered more than 1,300 items, including socks, gloves, hats, and masks!

As a reminder, our "Can the Pandemic" drive yielded over 1,000 items of nonperishable food to the Food Bank of Central New York. Why does the MPH4MPH Club encourage donating goods instead of money to our neighbors in need? Because we are cultivating the core value of kindness, which is good for our school community. By choosing and holding “a can (or sock, etc.) in each hand,” our students connect tangibly with needs that they themselves know: food, warmth, and compassion. The MPH4MPH Club encourages families to involve students as much as possible in the selection, purchase, and delivery of items that help others. Practicing compassion is the best way to build it!

This Week's Alumni Guest Speaker

We welcomed another special guest to Wednesday's All-School Meeting, Cierra (CJ) Butler ’15. While a student at MPH, CJ was a member of MUN, Spanish Club, choir, Mentors in Violence Prevention, and the Gay/Straight Alliance, and and was the senior advisor of the Rolling Stone. After graduating from MPH, CJ attended NYU and received a bachelor's degree in communications and media studies in 2019. CJ is currently the marketing communications specialist for Salt City Market and recently joined the Everson Museum as a non-board member of their Communications Committee. CJ shared with students that “it’s important to believe your teachers when they believe in you – you can do it!”
Guacamole with Sra. Trouyet!

Over the February break, Sra. Trouyet mailed guacamole kits to her Grade 7 Spanish class. Film production was set up in her home kitchen, and together, she and her students made the recipe in class. Now that's what we call "hands-on learning!"

Painting in MPH Chinese Club

China is not only famous for its national treasure, the giant panda, but also for the animal’s staple food bamboo. To the Chinese people, bamboo is a symbol of virtue; it reflects people’s souls and emotions. This week, members of the MPH Chinese Club had a workshop on painting bamboo with black and white ink. Take a look!
Many thanks to our thought-provoking alumna, The Reverend Eboni Marshall Turman, Ph.D. '98, who last week joined us to discuss how to engage in a dialogue around issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, and race with our children (and ourselves!) – and the importance of doing so now. If you were unable to attend the conversation, you may view it here.

Stay tuned for the next Community Conversation, which will take place at the end of the month.
Outdoor Recreation Club

While there's still snow on the ground, members of the Outdoor Recreation Club have been taking to the Wellness Trail with snowshoes! What a great way to get some fresh air, enjoy some exercise, and have fun with classmates!
Captured on Camera!

Ms. Salomon captured these happy Grade 2 students building a tower with STEAM materials!
