FEBRUARY 2022
Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter and for taking the time to learn about current events and efforts in the City of Oldsmar. For this edition, I think it’s important to provide an update regarding downtown redevelopment, the upcoming municipal election, and the Experience Oldsmar magazine. Please be sure to scroll through the newsletter to learn more about the public art survey, Coastal Waste & Recycling, holiday closures, and the pet photo contest. You will also find the link to the 2022 Oldsmar Candidates Forum video that took place last week.
Downtown Redevelopment - There are three different efforts that are currently taking place. First, there is the recommended regulatory Comprehensive Plan amendment to incentivize the construction of vertically integrated, mixed-use buildings that promote residential dwelling units instead of commercial space along Tampa Road just in the downtown area. The amendment does not increase the height or size of the development currently allowed. The amendment to the City’s Comprehensive Plan has been approved by the City of Oldsmar’s Planning Board, the City Council, the Forward Pinellas Planners Advisory Committee, and the Forward Pinellas Board. The amendment will be considered by the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners on February 8.
The second relates to the development of the property located next to City Hall. The City Council unanimously authorized the City Manager to enter negotiations with Woodfield Development, LLC. The next step in the process is for the City Manager to present the Essential Terms of a Development Agreement.
Third, the City Council unanimously authorized the City Manager to enter negotiations with Devon S Rushnell, LLC to develop the site adjacent to the Oldsmar Public Library. At tonight’s City Council meeting, the City Council will consider a revised conceptual plan for the site.
It is also important to note during the January 4 City Council Meeting, there was a consensus to host three public open house meetings prior to the City Council consideration of a development agreement for a specific proposal. At tonight’s meeting, the City Council will consider a specific approach for this effort.
